Summary:

This is an entry-level to early-career position designed for a Chemical Engineering graduate or an engineer with up to two years of experience. This role is intentionally structured as a foundation for long-term growth into full product and process technology ownership.

The engineer will support the design, evaluation, and commercialization of engineered process solutions used in heavy industrial applications. Over time, the role will expand beyond technical calculations into broader responsibility for system performance, pricing, cost structure, and supply chain coordination.

This position offers a unique blend of hands-on process engineering, commercial exposure, and cross-functional collaboration, making it ideal for an engineer who wants to understand how engineered systems are designed, sold, costed, and delivered.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (other duties may be assigned)

  1. Technical & Process Engineering
  • Perform detailed process engineering calculations including heat and mass balances, evaporative cooling duty, nozzle and injection point sizing, and hydraulic checks.
  • Analyze customer process data, operating conditions, and gas or liquid compositions to define appropriate system design parameters.
  • Interpret and review PFDs, P&IDs, and customer specifications to ensure technical requirements are clearly understood and documented.
  • Support evaluation of materials of construction, metallurgy, corrosion considerations, and operating limits.
  • Review internal and vendor technical documentation such as performance curves, thermal analyses, and datasheets.
  • Maintain calculation templates, sizing methodologies, and technical tools used for feasibility studies and proposals.
  1. Commercial & Product Ownership Development
  • Support preparation of technical proposals, bid packages, and equipment specifications to ensure accurate technical and commercial alignment.
  • Maintain and continuously improve pricing and sizing tools, ensuring cost inputs reflect current supply chain, manufacturing, and vendor pricing.
  • Develop an understanding of cost drivers, margins, and pricing strategy for engineered process systems.
  • Assist in scope definition and clarification to ensure customer requirements are fully captured in pricing and execution plans.
  • Gradually assume responsibility for technical-commercial decision making under guidance from senior engineers and management.
  1. Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Act as a technical liaison between Business Development, Applications Engineering, Project Engineering, and Supply Chain teams.
  • Support internal design reviews, technical clarification meetings, and handoff meetings between commercial and execution teams.
  • Coordinate with supply chain and vendors to support technical evaluations, documentation reviews, and cost alignment.
  • Participate in customer site visits for data collection, technical discussions, and commissioning or startup support.

Education and/or Experience:                             

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (required).

• 0–2 years of relevant experience; internships or co-op experience in process engineering or industrial environments is acceptable.

• Working knowledge of heat and mass balances, fluid dynamics, and basic thermodynamics.

• Familiarity with PFDs, P&IDs, and industrial process equipment.

• Strong interest in combining technical engineering work with commercial and business responsibility.

Language Skills:                                            

  • Must be proficient in English and possess the ability to read, to write, to analyze, and to interpret common scientific/technical literature, financial reports, and/or legal documents.
  • Possess the ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customer, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Possess the ability to effectively and clearly present information to customers and management.
  • Possess the ability to read and to interpret business related documents.
  • Ability to speak, to write and to communicate in Spanish and/or in German is a plus.

Mathematical Skills:                                                

  • Have the ability to work with fundamental mathematical concepts, such as probability and statistical inferences.
  • Understand the fundamentals of plane and solid geometry.
  • Possess the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:                                                    

Have the ability to identify problems, to collect data, to establish facts, and to draw valid conclusions. Have the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.                   

Technology and Equipment:

  • CRM or related software.
  • Proficient with the latest Microsoft Office products.

Other Qualifications and Abilities:                                            

Frequent travel of 60%-70% is required, and the employee will commute to Lechler, Inc. when not traveling. Occasional travel outside of the country to our Lechler affiliates is also required.

Physical Demands:

The following physical activities are required to perform the duties of this position:

  • Communicating through speaking and hearing.
  • Sitting and using hands and fingers to handle or to feel objects.
  • Standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms.
  • Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Close visual inspection.

Work Environment:

The following work environment is typically encountered while performing the essential functions of this position. (Reasonable accommodations may be possible to enable individuals with disabilities to perform their essential functions.): The employee will occasionally be exposed to plant environment, such as steel mills, aluminum mills, coal-fired power plants or cement plants, hence, are required to follow all of the safety guidelines while performing the duties of this position.  In addition, a driving record with proven safety performance is a must due to the extensive driving that is inherent in with this position.  The noise level in the plant environment may require hearing protection.

 

Qualifications:

 

 

Salary : $75,000 - $80,000
