Purpose of Position:
The Plant Manager is responsible for leading safe and efficient operations at the Fertilizer Plant. This includes overseeing production scheduling, budgeting, capital planning, raw material procurement, and ensuring environmental compliance. The role also entails managing plant records and standard operating procedures.
Essential Functions:
· Direct daily operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective transloading, storage, and production of fertilizer products.
· Ensure adherence to departmental, divisional, and corporate policies and procedures.
· Maintain compliance with company and governmental health and safety regulations.
· Oversee the daily production schedule and manage the plant’s maintenance program, including preventive maintenance and work assignments.
· Ensure staffing levels are sufficient to meet current and anticipated production needs.
· Assess and plan for facility and equipment upgrades to address present and future operational requirements.
· Initiate, propose, and implement capital projects as required for both immediate and long-term objectives.
· Provide comprehensive training for all plant staff on policies, safety protocols, and SOPs.
· Manage timely inventory adjustments and ensure accuracy of production transactions.
· Document production variances appropriately and collaborate with purchasing agents to keep MRP parameters updated and utilized effectively.
· Approve purchases and generate purchase orders as necessary.
Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Compliance:
· Lead and document plant safety meetings and audits.
· Ensure Air Board compliance regarding particulate emissions and dust control, including monitoring, system maintenance, record keeping, and employee training.
· Maintain EPA compliance by overseeing audits, nutrient management practices, and groundwater and stormwater concerns.
· Oversee hazardous material handling, including use, training, storage, and disposal.
Requirements:
· Minimum five years of supervisory experience covering Operations, Maintenance, and Production.
· Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Engineering or a related discipline preferred.
· Demonstrated knowledge of heavy equipment operations.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
· Familiarity with fertilizer and nutrient management is preferred.
· Proven ability to anticipate and adapt to operational variables, including fluctuations in production and sales demand.
· Capacity to perform effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
· Ability to work in challenging weather conditions and in areas with significant dust exposure.
