MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Associates degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
2. 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in network administration or engineering.
3. Criminal history clearance.
4. Valid Oregon Driver’s License and evidence of insurability.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Current work year of approximately 260 paid days, subject to change.
Salary and benefits on current District Salary Schdule and negotiated (LESPA) agreement.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This individual provides maintenance, support, and optimization of the district's data, voice, and wireless networks. This position ensures reliable connectivity across all district sites, supports instruction technology initiatives, and provides technical leadership for infrastructure projects. The Network Systems Specialist works closely with the technology department, schools, and vendors to maintain a robust and secure technology environment that supports teaching, learning, and operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Network Infrastructure Management: Designing, implementing, and maintaining the district's network infrastructure, including LANs, WANs, wireless networks, and associated hardware like routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Server Management: Managing and maintaining servers, including operating systems, virtualization platforms, and related software, ensuring their availability and performance.
- Other Networks Connected Systems-Supporting other network systems, including cameras, access control systems, VOIP, paging and intercom, and printing.
- Security: Implementing and maintaining network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access controls, to protect the district's data and systems from threats. Monitor network for unauthorized access, vulnerabilities, and security incidents; respond to and remediate security breaches.
- Technical Support: Providing technical support to staff on network and system-related issues, including troubleshooting, problem resolution, and user training.
- System Documentation: Creating and maintaining technical documentation for network and system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Project Management: Leading and participating in IT projects related to network and system upgrades, installations, and deployments.
- Capacity Planning: Assessing network and system capacity needs, planning for future growth, and ensuring adequate resources are available to support district operations.
- Compliance: Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and policies related to data security and privacy. Maintain compliance with district policies, federal (e.g., CIPA, FERPA), and state data privacy regulations.
- Strong understanding of security best practices and experience in implementation in an education environment.
- Ability to quickly learn and implement new technical systems.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), network security, server operating systems (Windows Server, Linux), Google Workspace, virtualization technologies, and cloud computing concepts.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues related to network and system performance.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Project Management Skills: Ability to manage IT projects, including planning, execution, and documentation.
- Customer Service Skills: Ability to provide excellent customer service and support to district staff.
