JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Accounting Specialist

Reports to: Treasurer

Employment Status: Regular/Full Time

Contract Days: 260 Days

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Bargaining Unit: Exempt

Description: Maintain accurate financial records, prepare financial statements, and assist in various accounting functions within the District’s fiscal office. Demonstrate strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure safety of students and staff
  • Maintain and update financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger entries, and reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and District policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of budgets, analyze variances, and provide recommendations to management for budgetary adjustments as needed.
  • Process invoices, payments, and expenses, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Monitor accounts receivable aging and follow up on outstanding balances.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely processing and reporting of payroll, including calculating wages, taxes, and deductions, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and District policies, and preparing and maintaining payroll records and reports.
  • Manage employee benefits, including health insurance and retirement plans, ensuring accurate administration and compliance with regulations
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local rules and regulations.
  • Assist with financial inquiries from staff members, vendors, parents, community members, and District partners
  • Assist with internal and external audit processes, provide documentation and support as needed to ensure audit readiness and compliance.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in accounting procedures, systems, and controls to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Treasurer or designee

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Five to ten years related experience
  • Must be bondable
  • Acceptable BCII report and FBI report
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Treasurer and/or Board of Education may find appropriate

  • Occasional requirement to lift, carry push and pull various items up to a maximum of 40 pounds, 100 pounds, e.g., copier, tables
  • Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions, i.e.., being prepared to come to work on all work days
  • Occasional exposure to loud noises

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $53,943.00 - $67,368.00 per year
