What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tutor- Correctional Facility position at LearningQuest Stanislaus Literacy Center?
We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable Tutor to provide instruction aligned with high school equivalency standards within a correctional facility setting. The Tutor will support incarcerated students in developing the academic competencies required to successfully complete all subject areas of the equivalency examination and prepare for post-secondary opportunities and reentry.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver structured instruction in core academic subject areas, including:
- Mathematics
- Language Arts (Reading & Writing)
- Science
- Social Studies
- Align instruction with current high school equivalency testing standards and performance benchmarks
- Develop and implement individualized learning plans based on student assessments and educational goals
- Administer practice assessments and evaluate student readiness for testing
- Provide one-on-one and small group instructional support
- Maintain accurate and timely records of attendance, progress, and outcomes in accordance with program and facility requirements
- Foster a structured, respectful, and motivating classroom environment within a secure setting
- Collaborate with facility personnel and education program staff to support student progress and compliance
- Adhere strictly to all institutional policies, procedures, and security protocols
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (required; teaching credential preferred)
- Experience teaching or tutoring secondary or adult learners
- Demonstrated knowledge of high school equivalency subject matter standards and assessment frameworks
- Strong instructional, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively within a correctional environment and with diverse populations
- Commitment to educational equity, rehabilitation, and student success
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in correctional education, adult education, or alternative education settings
- Familiarity with competency-based instruction and assessment
- Bilingual abilities (a plus)
Work Environment
- Secure correctional facility setting
- Position requires compliance with all institutional regulations, including security clearances and restricted materials policies
- Daily interaction with incarcerated individuals in a structured classroom environment
Background Clearance Requirement:
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all required pre-employment screenings. The selected candidate must be eligible for clearance under applicable correctional institution standards, which include, but are not limited to, a comprehensive background investigation. Candidates must demonstrate no disqualifying criminal history and must meet all statutory and regulatory criteria for access to a secure correctional facility.
