Overview: MINIMUM HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA REQUIRED. Must have (or be pursuing) a college degree in Elementary Education, Math, or related field.
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Tutor to provide personalized educational support to students in math. The ideal candidate will have experience working with Elementary-aged kids, a passion for teaching, and the ability to adapt their methods to meet the diverse needs of learners. This role involves working with students of different ages, including those with special educational needs, to enhance their understanding of foundational math topics and improve their academic performance. We use a movement-based curriculum that the candidate will be trained on. Topics include, but are not limited to, place value, fraction basics, data and graphic basics, etc.
Responsibilities
- Develop individualized lesson plans tailored to each student's learning style and academic goals.
- Foster a positive learning environment that encourages student engagement and connection with each student.
- Creatively implement several curricula to provide an engaging and impactful learning experience for each student.
- Assess student progress regularly and adjust teaching strategies as necessary.
- Support students with special education needs by implementing appropriate teaching techniques.
- Collaborate with parents and educators to ensure a cohesive approach to the student's education.
- Utilize classroom management skills to maintain focus and discipline during sessions.
Skills
- Strong understanding of the foundations of math and how they connect to later math skills.
- Experience working with children in various educational settings, including classroom environments and/or special education.
- Ability to break down concepts in an understandable manner, using visual, movement, and hands-on techniques.
- Patience and adaptability when working with preschool-aged children or those requiring additional support.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively convey information to students and engage them in learning.
- A commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive atmosphere for all learners.
Availability
- New applicants will be asked to sub initially during training, and then may be hired as a tutor.
- Sessions are typically offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 pm-8 pm. Applicant must be able to commit to a consistent shift within that time frame for the 2025-2026 school year, with few conflicts, to provide consistency for students.
The preferred candidate will be in pursuit of a college degree in Education, Mathematics, or similar. Or is someone who has worked in these fields, looking for part-time work.
