About the Role

As the Portfolio Manager, After School Programs, you will lead a diverse and mission-driven portfolio of after-school, summer, and family programs. You’ll oversee program quality, support and supervise site-based leadership teams, build trusted partnerships with schools and funders, and ensure every program delivers on its promise to inspire, engage, and uplift.

You will play a key role in shaping field strategy, championing staff development, and promoting continuous improvement grounded in data and community voice.

This role is perfect for a people-centered, data-savvy leader who thrives in dynamic environments and is committed to driving meaningful, measurable impact in the lives of young people.

What You’ll Do

Lead and Manage Programs That Matter

  • Oversee planning, implementation, and evaluation of youth and family programs, including after-school, summer camps, and off-site funded initiatives.

  • Ensure the implementation of high-quality curricula in partnership with Content Specialists.

  • Drive continuous program improvement by conducting quarterly evaluations and analyzing data to inform strategy.

Coach and Grow High-Performing Teams

  • Recruit, onboard, supervise, and develop staff across sites—including Program Directors, Coordinators, Teaching Artists, and Group Leaders.

  • Support performance management in partnership with the People & Culture team.

  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development that builds leadership capacity at all levels.

Build Strong School & Community Partnerships

  • Serve as the primary liaison to partner schools, DYCD, and community organizations.

  • Lead monthly check-ins with school partners to ensure alignment and address any challenges.

  • Represent the organization in DYCD site visits, community events, and new partnership meetings.

Drive Excellence Through Compliance and Data

  • Ensure compliance with DOE, DYCD, DOHMH, and funder regulations, especially around licensing, safety, and health protocols.

  • Support fiscal oversight and management in partnership with Finance and senior leadership.

  • Oversee robust data collection and usage: monitoring attendance, outcomes, and grant deliverables.

Lead in the Field

  • Represent the organization at citywide, regional and national OST (Out-of-School Time) conferences.

  • Facilitate presentations and workshops that showcase best practices and elevate youth voices.

  • Bring back research, ideas, and inspiration to inform innovation and program development.

Collaborate Cross-Functionally to Strengthen Our Work

  • Serve as a key connector between program sites and central departments.

  • Streamline communication and coordinate resources across teams.

  • Participate in organizational initiatives, strategic planning, and fundraising efforts.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for a mission-aligned leader who combines instructional expertise with a collaborative spirit and an unwavering commitment to youth development and equity.

Core Competencies

  • Leadership & Vision: Ability to guide a diverse team toward shared outcomes

  • Relationship-Building: Skilled at cultivating trust and collaboration with stakeholders

  • Strategic Thinking: Data-informed decision-making that aligns with big-picture goals

  • Youth Development Expertise: Deep knowledge of age-appropriate, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive practices

  • People Management: Strong coaching, supervision, and feedback skills

  • Operational Excellence: Comfort with compliance, budgeting, and evaluation systems

  • Communication: Clear, persuasive, and inspiring written and verbal communication

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Youth Development, or a related field (Master’s preferred)

  • Minimum of 5 years leading youth, family, or community programs in a management role

  • Demonstrated experience supervising staff, managing budgets, and ensuring contract compliance

  • Familiarity with NYC systems such as DYCD, DOE, and DOHMH

  • Proficiency in data analysis, reporting, and program evaluation tools
