6th Grade Physical Education Teacher
Position Summary
Learning Gate Community School is seeking an enthusiastic, energetic, and student-centered
6th Grade Physical Education Teacher who is passionate about promoting lifelong health,
wellness, and physical fitness. The ideal candidate creates an engaging, inclusive, and active
learning environment where students develop physical skills, teamwork, leadership,
sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyle habits.
Essential Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
Plan and deliver standards-based physical education instruction aligned with the Florida
Physical Education Standards.
Teach a variety of individual, partner, and team sports while emphasizing skill
development over competition.
Promote physical fitness, healthy decision-making, nutrition, and overall wellness.
Develop lessons that improve cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility,
coordination, balance, and motor skills.
Utilize developmentally appropriate instructional strategies that engage all learners.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including ESE, ESOL,
gifted students, and students with physical limitations.
Integrate technology when appropriate to enhance instruction and monitor student
fitness progress.
Student Development
Foster teamwork, cooperation, leadership, responsibility, perseverance, and positive
sportsmanship.
Encourage students to set personal fitness goals and monitor their own progress.
Promote self-confidence through skill development and personal achievement.
Teach conflict resolution and respectful communication during physical activities.
Reinforce school-wide expectations and positive character traits.
Classroom & Activity Management
Create a safe, organized, and positive learning environment.
Maintain proper supervision of students during all indoor and outdoor activities.
Establish clear procedures and expectations for equipment use and student behavior.
Ensure all activities follow district and school safety guidelines.
Inspect and maintain equipment to ensure a safe learning environment.
Report safety concerns promptly.
Environmental Education
Utilize Learning Gate's outdoor spaces whenever appropriate to promote active
learning.
Incorporate environmental stewardship, outdoor recreation, and appreciation for
nature into lessons.
Encourage lifelong participation in outdoor physical activities such as walking, hiking,
fitness challenges, and cooperative games.
Support school-wide environmental initiatives and wellness events.
Assessment
Assess student progress using a variety of formative and summative assessments.
Monitor student growth in physical skills, fitness, participation, and personal
responsibility.
Maintain accurate student records and communicate progress with families.
Use assessment data to adjust instruction and support individual student growth.
Collaboration
Collaborate with grade-level teams and special area teachers.
Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
Work collaboratively with administrators, counselors, ESE staff, and MTSS teams.
Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, participation, and
behavior.
Support school-wide events, field days, wellness initiatives, and extracurricular
activities.
Professional Responsibilities
Maintain current Florida teaching certification.
Participate in ongoing professional development.
Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, and confidentiality.
Fulfill assigned supervisory duties before, during, and after school.
Support the mission and vision of Learning Gate Community School.
Serve as a positive role model for students through healthy lifestyle choices and
professional conduct.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
Valid Florida Teaching Certificate in Physical Education (K–12).
Knowledge of middle school physical education curriculum and instructional best
practices.
Strong classroom and behavior management skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $48,500.00 - $68,500.00 per year
