Learning Garden is a developmental disability agency providing intervention services to children in an inclusive early childhood setting. We have a collaborative team approach to serving the children and families in our program.
POSITION: Early Care and Education Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED, Experience with children and child development classes. Must be willing to pursue continued education, increased pay differential for a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or a degree in Early Childhood Education.
Must have a nurturing, respectful disposition towards children, good communication skills, able to follow instructions and uphold the high standards of the Learning Garden quality of care in accordance with NAEYC accreditation standards.
REPORTS TO: Center Director
JOB GOAL: To provide children with a learning environment and varied experiences, which will help them develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development toward the overall goal of social and cognitive competence.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
EDUCATION:
1. Interacts with children during all indoor and outdoor activities.
2. Reinforces acceptable behaviors and redirects unacceptable behaviors.
3. Deals with individual problems on an individual basis.
4. Does not raise voice or threaten.
5. Demonstrates respect for child and accepts differences in children.
6. Models correct speech patterns and vocabulary for children.
7. Corrects through conversation using developmentally appropriate practice.
8. Provides opportunities for each child to experience success and reinforces all efforts.
9. Extends learning to meet the individual needs of children.
10. Works in collaboration with co-workers regarding schedules, lesson plans, classroom activities, materials and record keeping. Plans and implements a classroom program geared to the children in classroom using principles of developmentally appropriate practice.
11. Prepares and maintains the learning environment.
HEALTH & NUTRITION:
1. Supervises children at meals and assists children with clean up.
2. Follows safety and environment policies and procedures.
3. Provides emergency medical care for children as needed.
4. Obtains and maintains first aid and CPR certifications.
5. Assists children with diapering and toilet training using approved procedures.
6. Responsible for the care, safety and well-being of all children in the group.
7. Maintain a safe, clean and pleasant environment.
SOCIAL SERVICES:
1. Maintains confidentiality of child and family information.
2. Refers families to applicable community resources for social services. Documents and advises Center Director of changes in family situations that require assistance.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT:
1. Helps recruit parent volunteers, provides parent opportunities to share their skills and treats parents with respect.
2. Attends Center parent meetings as required.
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Coordinates with staff concerning reports, policies, and guidelines.
2. Attends all required continuing education staff development and in- service meetings.
3. Works with team to ensure that the program building is maintained in a clean and organized manner.
4. Supports program policies, accepting changes and new ideas.
5. Complies with center personnel policies regarding absences and tardiness.
6. Collaborates with team members to ensure continuity of care and consistency in application of intervention strategies.
7. Reports to work ready to perform responsibilities.
8. Upholds and adheres to health and safety rules and policies of the center.
9. Performs professional responsibilities as required by NAEYC and center.
10. Maintains positive relationships with children, co-workers and parents.
11. Supports team members in the day to day functions of the classroom.
12. Assists in the supervision of assistants, volunteers and visiting parents.
13. Assumes other duties as assigned.
EVALUATION: Evaluation of the performance of this job will be based on supervisor’s evaluation, according to the procedures developed for center personnel. Employment in this position is contingent on performance, need, and funding.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
