About the role:

SUMMARY OF POSITION

An Expanded Learning Program Site Coordinator oversees an expanded learning program at a single school site (K – 12) intended to encourage a culture of learning by providing students with the knowledge, skills, and resources for academic and personal success. Expanded Learning Programs are defined as a before school, after school, summer, or intersession learning programs that focus on developing the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs and interests of pupils through hands-on, engaging learning experiences. Activities may include tutoring, personal enrichment, life skills, recreation, and other activities that facilitate success.


An Expanded Learning Program Site Coordinator is responsible for the planning, implementation, and oversight of programming including the supervision of Youth Leaders and other program staff who work directly with students. Under supervision from a Program Quality Supervisor, an Expanded Learning Program Site Coordinator trains and evaluates staff, and works closely with school administration, faculty, community partners, parents, and students to ensure that programming meets the needs of the school and its students as well as the policies of the California and/or Federal Department of Education.


DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

An Expanded Learning Program Site Coordinator in the PREP program works at a high school. Programming typically occurs outside of instructional day hours for 3 – 4 hours per day and involves a variety of academic and personal enrichment activities that are based on programming goals and student interest.


What you'll do:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the general operation of day to day programming at a designated LEARN partner school;
  • Develop and foster positive relationships with school administration, faculty, staff, community partners, parents and students;
  • Plan and coordinate programming with input from school administration, ASB students, teachers, parents, counselors, and Title I Coordinators via a program Advisory Board.
  • Develop staffing plan to implement programming;
  • Supervise Youth Leaders and other program staff, including performance monitoring and evaluation, interviewing candidates and making recommendations for hiring, and providing direct input to staff disciplinary decisions;
  • Monitor expenses on a regular basis to ensure that the program costs remain within the program budget;
  • Regularly meet with teachers, principals, and other instructional-day staff to align after school activities with the students’ instructional-day curriculum or to ensure that after school activities align with the interests and goals of the students;
  • Ensure that student attendance is accurately recorded and reported and meets program plan goals and grant guidelines;
  • Work with school staff, parents, and students to recruit and retain students in programming;
  • Ensure that Youth Leaders and other program staff record their time and submit all required paperwork accurately and timely;
  • Maintain individual and group documentation of program participation and academic progress (electronic and hard copy);
  • Distribute and collect evaluation instruments;
  • Assist with periodic reporting tasks;
  • Attend monthly Expanded Learning Program Site Coordinator professional development, regular school all-staff meetings, and meet with the principal on a monthly basis;
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

A Bachelor’s Degree, or, four years of experience working with youth in an educational setting.


Education and experience can combine for the 4 years (i.e. AA and 2 years of experience).

Ability to pass a district examination for instructional assistants. A Bachelor’s degree, experience supervising staff, and developing program plans is highly desired.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Must have an interest in working with at-risk youth to help them achieve to their highest potential. Ability to understand the needs and differences of children. Requires the ability to balance emotional support and discipline to deal with child behavior problems. Excellent organizational and managerial skills, attention to details, and sound judgment. Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must be a team player. Ability to communicate effectively with teachers, students, and parents. Must be punctual, dependable, and responsive to supervision.


LANGUAGE & COMPUTER SKILLS

Strong writing skills. Competence and comfort with computer applications such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, and web-based communication tools, such as e-mail and Internet. Ability to speak Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese or Vietnamese are also desired.


PHYSICAL SKILLS

Requires the ability to observe the activity of children and others.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires completion of Live Scan Department of Justice And FBI Criminal Background Check, and TB Test.


Condition of Employment & Benefits:

Positions are dependent on funding from the California Department of Education. This is a full time, non-exempt, benefitted hourly wage of $25.00.


The pay range for this role is:

25 - 25 USD per hour(Frontier High School (Continuation))
