Summer Work Program Career Mentor Associate
Position Type: Seasonal, Part-Time
Start & End Dates: April 1 - August 22, 2025
Hours: 20 hrs. per week in April -June and 28 hrs. per week in July-August
Availability: April -June: flexible schedule TBD by supervisor, hybrid; July - August: Mon-Thurs 9am to 4pm, onsite.
Pay Range: $20-$25.50/hour Reports To: Career & Education Mentoring Coordinator
Location: LEAP Salem office (April- June), hybrid; Salem State Univ. (July-August)
ABOUT LEAP: LEAP for Education (LEAP) is a non-profit organization that supports youth in their personal, educational, and career growth by partnering with the community to increase opportunities and advance equity.
ABOUT SUMMER WORK PROGRAM: LEAP’s Summer Work Program is a 6-week program for high school students to get early job experience, explore their interests, learn how to set goals, and build their long-term career readiness skills. Multilingual learners will do this in a supportive environment that aids in developing their written and oral English literacy skills.
Program Goals:
- Provide students with high-quality career development experiences that foster positive connection to peers, employers, mentors, and the larger community
- Support the development of key soft skills through workshops and applied learning
- Engage students in projects that connect to a career of interest
JOB SUMMARY: Assist in recruiting and matching career mentors with students, and manage career mentor communications throughout program time, including logistical needs and check-in calls. The Career Mentor Associate is responsible for supporting the career mentor experience, ensuring they have the communications and support they need to be successful.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Before July 1st:
- Assist in recruiting Career Mentors for the Summer Work Program, ensuring all required paperwork is completed and processed.
- Support the matching process between mentors and student mentees, including notifying mentors once a match is made.
- Help onboard and train mentors on LEAP’s online mentoring platform (MentorPro) to facilitate smooth communication and scheduling.
- Assist the Career & Education Mentoring Coordinator in the delivery of training sessions for mentors —communicating best practices in career guidance and effective mentorship.
- Manage administrative tasks, including updating technology platform mentor profiles and handling necessary documentation.
After July 1st:
- Distribute weekly guides and forms to all Career Mentors to ensure consistent communication and support.
- Conduct regular individual check-ins with mentors to address questions, gather feedback, and relay any concerns to the supervisor and the Summer Work Program team.
- Coordinate weekly virtual office hours to help provide a forum for mentors to discuss challenges, share success stories, and receive updates; assist in managing mentor inquiries with responses provided within one business day.
- Coordinate mentor invitations to program presentations and the final gallery walk to showcase student projects and celebrate career development achievements.
- Send thank-you emails and assist LEAP’s Development team in creating social media materials that highlight mentor contributions and partner appreciation.
- Monitor student progress via the technology platform during weekly Career Mentor Meetings and share this information with Summer Work Program staff..
- Assist with the implementation of surveys for mentors and mentees to support continuous program improvement
SKILLS AND EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- 1 year of customer-facing or relationship-building experience required, such as fundraising, telemarketing, sales or customer service (experience in nonprofit is helpful)
- Strong communication skills, written, verbal, and interpersonal
- Demonstrated commitment to LEAP values and mission
- Must agree to a CORI and SORI background check
- Familiarity with Google Drive
- Proficient or fluent Spanish and/or Portuguese language skills preferred
