Job Summary
We have an immediate opening for a full-time Fire Protection Technician supporting the facilities engineering program for a federal agency. The Fire Protection Technician is responsible for conducting routine maintenance and inspection of all facility fire suppression and alarm systems in compliance with applicable fire life safety codes and regulations. This role requires journeyman-level experience in conventional and addressable fire alarm systems, water-based fire protection system layout, hydraulic calculations, and code compliance.
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine maintenance and inspection of all facility fire suppression and alarm systems as required by fire life and safety codes and regulations.
- Maintain basic knowledge of fire alarms, sprinklers, control panels, pumps, and other components as they relate to fire code compliance and fire life safety.
- Perform all duties of a Fire Technician I.
- Apply comprehensive technical knowledge to solve complex problems by interpreting manufacturers’ manuals or similar technical documents.
- Apply technical knowledge to perform simple or routine tasks following detailed instructions.
- Receive technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician.
- Perform work that is spot-checked for accuracy.
- Work on conventional and addressable fire alarm systems in compliance with NFPA 72 –National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code.
- Perform layout of water-based fire protection systems, including complete layout of sprinkler and standpipe systems.
- Perform hydraulic calculations for a variety of water-based fire protection system applications.
- May support or manage water-based system layout projects and/or code compliance efforts.
- Interface and coordinate with other technicians and stakeholders as required.
- Work from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals.
- Perform physical labor including walking, standing, lifting up to 40 pounds, pulling, climbing up and down ladders, and demonstrating agility/dexterity to perform assigned duties.
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience at the journeyman level working on conventional and addressable fire alarm systems in compliance with NFPA 72 National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code.
- Minimum of five (5) years of water-based fire protection systems layout experience,
- including:
- Complete layout of sprinkler and standpipe systems.
- Hydraulic calculations.
- Experience across a variety of applications.
- May include management of water-based system layout projects and/or code
- compliance.
- Trained on fire alarm systems including Simplex and Notifier.
- Strong communication skills required to interface and coordinate with other technicians.
- Experience working from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering
- drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals.
- Capable of performing physical labor including walking, standing, lifting up to 40 pounds, pulling, climbing ladders, and demonstrating agility/dexterity to perform assigned duties.
Pay: $83,000.00 - $86,000.00 per year
