League School for Autism is an award-winning, year-round program dedicated to the education of children on the Autism Spectrum. Our team approach to education creates a collaborative, supportive and open environment within our community. We are currently seeking a SCHOOL NURSE for our residential program in Walpole to start immediately. The year-round, weekly schedule is Tuesday through Saturday 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Annual salary range is $87,500 - $92,500.
Position Requirements:
•Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
•Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Massachusetts; DESE School Nurse license a plus.
•Consideration given to a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) (at a negotiated rate) with a current Massachusetts certification and work experience with autistic population.
•Minimum of two years’ nursing experience, which must include general nursing, supervision and staff training.
•CPR, First Aid, and Safety Care certifications.
•Valid driver’s license.
•Completion of an orientation program on school health services through the Department of Public Health.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
The School Nurse is responsible for the overall monitoring of the health and safety of the students and for coordinating the management of staff and daily activities in meeting these needs. Member of the Safety Committee.
1.Implements and manages a comprehensive school/residential health program consistent with Massachusetts guidelines, DESE regulation, EEC regulation, and MDPH regulation.
2.Prepares medications for administration staff.
3.Provides training for the supervisory/teaching staff in the administration of medication.
4.Coordinates and implements the state mandated programs (annual physicals, immunizations, scoliosis, vision, hearing, etc.) and surveillance and screening programs.
5.Monitors the health and safety issues within all locations of the residential and school program.
6.Provides the initial orientation and ongoing in-service training of all staff in the areas of health and safety needs, medical conditions, medical diagnosis, and treatment plans.
7.Maintains comprehensive and confidential paper and electronic school health records, including daily logs, accident reports, and individual reports.
8.Ensures that parents/guardians are informed of health needs of students.
9.Communicates with outside agencies and physicians, as necessary.
10.Assists in the planning and implementation of documentation procedures (i.e. medication administration, physicians’ orders, skin checks, health and safety reports, food intake charts, weights and heights, etc.).
11.Participates in in-service training, as required by agency policy.
12.Coordinates in-service training for all school/residential personnel in CPR, First Aid, Medication Administration, AED training, anaphylaxis, seizure protocol, and current health issues.
13.Communicates with parents and service agencies on topics related to health needs of designated students.
14.Monitors menus, meal preparation, and food storage in residential homes.
15.Orders medications and medical supplies for residential students.
16.Participates in ongoing professional development as needed to maintain MA license as a registered nurse and licensure with MA DESE.
17.Provides medical emergency coverage 7 days per week and 24 hours per day. Available for consultation over the phone for medication/medical-related issues.
18.Performs other reasonably related duties, as assigned by the Nurse Manager, Director of Clinical and QA, or the Chief Executive Officer.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Google suite, and SNAP Nursing software.
