Special Education Teacher
Joan Fenichel Therapeutic Nursery is seeking teachers to work in our preschool program.
Responsibilities for certified Special Ed teacher include but are not limited to:
- Assess developmental functioning and learning skills of students based on IEP goals utilizing appropriate assessment tools
- Write annual goals, behavioral objectives and intervention strategies corresponding with assessment in consultation with other disciplines
- Evaluate student progress on an on-going basis
- Prepare weekly lesson plans according to a planned sequence with IEP goals and plan/share with teacher assistants
- Instruct and supervise teacher assistants and substitute teacher assistants in appropriate techniques to work effectively with children
- Participates in program planning and interdisciplinary team meetings
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Must have NYS Student with Disabilities teaching certification (Birth-Grades 2)
Skills and/or Experience Required:
- Prior experience working with school age children (preferably special needs population or a similar combination of work and experience)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and highly organized.
