What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Market Success Manager position at Leafly?
Field Market Success Manager (1099 Contractor)
Part-Time • Cannabis Technology • New York, NY
This role is built for someone who doesn’t need to be managed — they need to be unleashed.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We are not looking for someone who needs direction at every turn. The Field Market Success Manager is a rare hybrid: part brand builder, part account strategist, and fully self-directed. You will own your territory in New York with minimal oversight, and your results will speak for themselves.
The Non-Negotiable: You Are a Self-Starter
You identify what needs to be done and do it — without being asked twice
You manage your own calendar, priorities, and follow-through with precision
You are proactive in building relationships, spotting opportunities, and flagging risks before they become problems
You bring ideas, not just execution — you surface market feedback, suggest campaign angles, and push for better outcomes
You are comfortable being the only Leafly rep in the room and making that count
When no one is watching, your standard of work doesn’t change
ROLE SUMMARY
The Field Market Success Manager (FMSM) is a hybrid role that unites in-market brand activation with strategic customer success management. Operating on a part-time basis across the New York territory, this individual works independently to serve as the face of Leafly to consumers and retail dispensary partners alike — driving brand awareness through events and community engagement while owning retailer relationships to maximize product adoption, retention, and revenue growth.
Because this is a part-time, largely autonomous role, the person in this seat must be exceptionally organized, self-motivated, and capable of delivering full-time impact on a flexible schedule. This is not a role for someone who waits to be told what to do next.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
You will co-manage your own time across these two pillars.
In-Market Brand Activation
Proactively identify and secure event opportunities, dispensary partnerships, and community activations across New York — don’t wait for the calendar to come to you
Represent Leafly at dispensary locations, consumer events, trade shows, and industry activations
Educate consumers, patients, and budtenders on the full Leafly platform: app features, shopping, deals, and strain tools — far beyond basic brand awareness
Build and maintain genuine, lasting relationships with in-store dispensary personnel including managers, buyers, and floor staff
Self-direct content creation across approved social media platforms; capture photos, video, and event assets for post-event recaps without needing prompts to do so
Coordinate your own event logistics including setup, breakdown, and vendor communication
Proactively ensure all activities comply with New York cannabis regulations and Leafly brand standards
Submit timely, detailed field recaps covering store visits, events, and budtender engagement — on time, every time, without reminders
Customer Success Management
Partner with a portfolio of New York retail dispensary accounts post-onboarding, managing the full relationship lifecycle with minimal supervision
Take the initiative to check in with accounts before problems arise — don’t wait for inbound escalations
Partner with the Onboarding team to ensure new accounts are set up for success from day one
Develop and execute change management plans to increase product adoption at both the individual account and portfolio level
Proactively identify at-risk accounts and intervene early; do not wait to be assigned a save play
Collaborate with Market Managers on renewals, upsell handoffs, and long-term account strategy
Advocate for customer needs cross-functionally and drive communication back to the account without needing to be chased
Market Intelligence & Reporting
Independently gather and surface competitive intelligence, consumer feedback, and market trends from the field
Monitor changes in the New York dispensary landscape and communicate relevant insights to the marketing and sales teams proactively
Maintain accurate, up-to-date account records and activity logs in Salesforce — your CRM hygiene reflects your professionalism
Bring ideas from the field back to the team: campaign suggestions, event leads, product gaps, and emerging partnership opportunities
WHAT YOU BRING
Required
2 years in customer success, account management, field marketing, brand ambassadorship, or a comparable role — cannabis, retail, or tech preferred
A proven track record of operating independently: managing your own pipeline, schedule, and priorities without daily direction
Strong verbal and written communication skills; you can walk into any dispensary or account meeting and make an immediate impression
Proficiency with CRM tools (Salesforce preferred) and comfort working with data and performance metrics
Exceptional organizational skills — you track your own follow-ups, deadlines, and commitments without being reminded
High comfort with ambiguity; you adapt quickly when priorities shift or the regulatory environment changes
Must be 21 years of age or older
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for in-market travel across New York
Availability for evenings and weekends as required by event schedules
Preferred
Knowledge of New York’s cannabis regulatory landscape and retail market dynamics
Prior experience with event coordination, brand activation, or field marketing programs
Familiarity with Google Workspace, Excel, and basic performance reporting
Ability to lift event materials up to 35 lbs and stand for extended periods
Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university
HOW WE MEASURE SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE
Because this is a part-time, autonomous role, performance is measured on outcomes — not hours logged. We will evaluate this person on:
Territory account health scores and retention rates
Dispensary visit frequency and quality of field recaps submitted
Event activations sourced and executed per quarter
Upsell opportunities identified and handed to MMs
Timeliness and accuracy of Salesforce activity logging
Proactiveness: Are you surfacing issues and ideas before being asked?
COMPENSATION
Leafly offers a competitive part-time compensation package for this New York-based role:
Hourly Rate: $42 – $48/hour depending on experience (New York market-adjusted)
Approximate hours: 20–25 hours per week, flex schedule
Mileage reimbursement for all in-market travel
Note on salary equivalency: At 20–25 hrs/week, the annualized equivalent of this hourly range is approximately $43,680–$62,400, consistent with NY market rates for part-time hybrid brand/CSM roles. Candidates seeking full-time engagement may be considered for conversion as the territory grows.
