JOB OVERVIEW

Elementary School Counselors at LEAD act as proactive advocates for students’ well-being, collaborating across teams to implement solutions that prioritize students’ best interests. Counselors are instrumental in cultivating a positive school culture, addressing the diverse needs of our students, and driving initiatives like the Be Well Initiative, focused on socio-emotional learning and mental health. They also deliver whole-class guidance lessons aligned with the Be Well Initiative framework.

MAJOR PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Counseling

  • Lead and coordinate the Be Well Initiative, integrating socio-emotional learning and mental health practices into the school’s culture.

  • Coordinate and lead school-wide efforts to implement and monitor RTI,  S-Team, and 504s processes.

  • Provide direct services to students and families through individual and group support.

  • Perform home visits when necessary.

  • Deliver crisis counseling and consultation to students and staff as needed.

  • Conduct in-service training for staff on relevant topics, including mental health awareness and socio-emotional strategies.

  • Implement school-wide student needs assessments and use data to design targeted interventions with stakeholders.

  • Stay informed on state and national counseling trends and policies.

  • Supervise counseling interns (optional).

  • Fulfill other job-related duties as assigned.



School Culture

  • Collaborate with student behavior teams to develop initiatives that promote positive behavior and emotional well-being.

  • Support the creation and implementation of the school’s culture, vision and goals.

  • Plan and execute school-wide events that foster community and student recognition, such as Student-Led Conferences, Spirit Week, and awards ceremonies.

  • Build strong relationships with students and staff, modeling positive and respectful interactions.

  • Partner with the Family Engagement Coordinator to enhance family involvement in supporting student growth.

Student Support

  • Provide data and insights to monitor student trends, such as assessment data, attendance, and behavior.

  • Support the implementation of school-wide behavior systems and strategies (e.g., Be Well, PBIS).

  • Assist teachers in addressing students’ social and emotional needs, providing guidance and strategies for classroom success.

  • Lead data analysis to identify trends and develop interventions to improve behavior and support.

Data Analysis

  • Analyze school-wide student support data to identify patterns and recommend interventions.

  • Use data from the Be Well Initiative to monitor the effectiveness of socio-emotional programs and refine strategies as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a K-12 school setting (urban schools preferred).

  • Previous experience leading RTI and S-Team processes is preferred.

  • Experience implementing socio-emotional programs or mental health initiatives is a plus.

Education

  • Current licensure in School Counseling, School Social Work, or Licensed Professional Counseling (with school-based experience), OR

  • An advanced degree in School Counseling or Social Work from an accredited college or university is required


Compensation

This is a full-time, exempt position. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience, including full benefits and technology provisions.

Salary : $55,000 - $84,000
