A design and architecture firm dedicated to defining the next generation of Living, Learning and Healing Environments is hiring a Fire Protection and Plumbing Engineer/Designer. The company is currently seeking a candidate to fill a Fire Protection and Plumbing Engineer/Designer with 10 years’ experience designing plumbing and fire protection systems for commercial buildings. A salary plus bonus and benefits package will be offered. You will work hybrid from one of our 4 offices T, W, Th and remotely M, F.
This position will perform all aspects of engineering as it relates to individually assigned projects. An engineering degree is a plus but not required, your relevant work experience will suffice. The Plumbing/Fire Protection Designer will meet the following list of requirements and must have the ability to:
- Meet with architects and other team members to determine appropriate plumbing and fire protection systems, location, and preliminary cost estimates.
- Perform appropriate fieldwork to determine a design direction, including making educated decisions on system designs and upgrades.
- Experience with system layout, calculation, and sizing of piping and equipment.
- Work with architects, clients, and other engineering disciplines to coordinate systems during design and production drawings.
- Perform plumbing system and fire protection system design calculations.
- Understand national standard plumbing codes, building codes and NFPA
- codes
- Understand construction plans of plumbing and fire protection systems
- Prepare contract documents to design and provide concepts for schematic design packages using latest version of AutoCad and/or Revit software, HydraCad/HydraCALC is a plus.
- To develop technical construction specifications to appropriately support project design and drawings.
- Assist in plumbing and fire protection construction administration of the project, including shop drawing review, site visits, cost proposal evaluations, and response to questions from the field.
- Strong written and communication skills are a must with the ability to multi-task – working on simultaneous project assignments, each in different phases.
Requirements:
- Associate’s degree in a related engineering/science discipline with a sound knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals.
- Graduate and/or registered Professional Engineer is a plus.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or REVIT software (REVIT preferred).
- Understanding of the national standard plumbing codes, building codes and NFPA codes .
- Understanding construction plans of plumbing and fire protection systems.
Preferred Certifications:
- ASPE (American Society of Plumbing Engineers) CPDT, OR CPD, preferred or ability to obtain certification within one year of employment.
- LEED certifications are a plus.
