Instructional Assistant
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
❖ General Duties
o Work in close proximity with assigned teacher and students
o Assist students, individually or in groups, to reinforce skills and/or oversee learning activities
o Follow specific functions as outlined in a written plan to supplement classroom instruction
o Assist with classroom computer instruction
o Participate in professional development (site/district) to enhance ability to support student achievement
o Assist students with various testing activity
o Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
o Supervise students during playground/recess and lunch periods
o Participate in pick up and drop off activities
o Responsible for analyzing and tracking student progress data
o Various clerical duties related to classroom activities
o Other duties as assigned by Principal or supervisor
o This is an in-person position
❖ Reasoning Ability
o Understand, remember, and apply verbal and/or written instructions or other information; understand, remember, and communicate routine information.
o Organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology; organize and prioritize own work schedule
o Read and interpret instructions, understand, and follow basic instructions and guidelines; interpret written procedures and complete routine forms and/or conduct routine verbal communication with individuals via telephone or e-mail, speak and write effectively; express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word, communicate verbally with others accurately and quickly
o Understand verbal and written instructions; understand simple to complex multiple step instructions; solve practical problems
o Apply common sense in performing job
❖ Follows Policies and Procedures
o Attends school each day and notifies Principal of absences in a timely manner
o Consistently follows, maintains, and conforms to all district policies and procedures
o Follows dress code
o Adheres to procedures regarding finances, field trips, etc.
o Consistently follows clock in and clock out procedures and maintains accurate time data
❖ Physical Demands
o May lift, pull, push or carry. May require physical strength to push/pull 50 lbs.
o May sit or stand for a prolonged period of time
o May be exposed to outdoor elements
o May require physical intervention for students experiencing behavioral difficulties
o May assist other personnel in physical demands
❖ Qualifications
o High School Diploma
o Current IVP Fingerprint clearance card
o Previous school experience preferred
o Must possess an AA or pass a certification exam within 6 months of hire
