The Position:

The Core Room Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the core department to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This position supervises department personnel, coordinates production activities, maintains equipment readiness, and ensures production schedules are met while adhering to company quality and safety standards.

Supervision and Production Coordination

  • Supervise and direct core department employees to ensure consistent and optimal production performance.
  • Ensure employees receive proper training on machine operation, safety procedures, and work instructions.
  • Conduct and facilitate departmental meetings as needed.
  • Monitor employee performance and conduct regular performance evaluations.
  • Administer corrective actions in accordance with company policies when necessary.
  • Review and approve employee vacation requests and daily timecards.
  • Coordinate all core department activities to ensure efficient workflow and on-time production.
  • Review dispatch lists and prepare shop packets with appropriate production start dates.
  • Ensure machines, tooling, and all required equipment are operational and ready before each shift.
  • Verify that machine calibrations are completed, review calibration results, and identify out-of-control conditions. Initiate maintenance work orders to resolve equipment issues promptly.
  • Mark up core boxes for proper venting requirements.
  • Help develop, update, and maintain departmental work instructions and operating procedures.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels of cores, sand, consumables, and departmental supplies.
  • Review process audit reports and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Coordinate with sand molding and permanent mold departments to ensure cores are available to meet production schedules.
  • Complete all required departmental documentation accurately and within established deadlines.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or an associate degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of foundry, manufacturing, or core-making experience.
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of core-making equipment, sand systems, production scheduling, and quality control processes.
  • Ability to read production schedules, blueprints, and technical work instructions.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and manufacturing software systems is preferred.


Functional Requirements

Routinely able to:

  • Manually lift and move product and materials up to 55 lbs. through regular physical exertion, including but not limited to reach forward, reach overhead, lift, carry, crouch and bend.
  • Power grip and wrist turn, including the use of hand tools and/or steering for truck.
  • Walk, sit or stand for up to 12 hours with intermittent breaks.
  • Push / pull 100lbs.
  • See, inspect, and evaluate product quality
  • Read and understand written work instructions in English
  • Work in a non-climate controlled environment, including hot and humid conditions.
  • Walk up and down steps
  • Climb ladders and stairs of varying height
  • Wear task-based Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    • Protective Footwear;
    • Hearing Protection
    • Protective Eyewear
    • Gloves
    • Additional PPE may as required by specific tasks
