Join the Bureau of Media and Communications (BMAC) and play a key role in shaping how the Louisiana Department of Health connects with the public, partners, and its 8,000 employees statewide. This team leads high-impact internal and external communications, working closely with executive leadership to align messaging with department priorities. From supporting media relations to developing clear, engaging content across digital platforms, BMAC ensures critical public health information reaches the people who need it most. Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in public relations, journalism, marketing, content creation, social media management, or graphic design; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR

A bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Lead, with direction and oversight from the Communications Director, in planning, developing, implementing, and managing strategies and content for LDH’s social media accounts and website.

Collaborate with the Digital Media Director to plan and create content for social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

  • Create, publish, and manage social media content across all department channels.
  • Monitor social media for stakeholder comments or messages and report inquiries as needed.
  • Plan and develop social media campaigns to promote programs and initiatives within LDH.
  • Conduct research on social media trends and audience engagement, using data to optimize content and performance.
  • Assist in planning, organizing, creating, and publishing website content, ensuring it aligns with LDH branding and mission.
  • Support the strategic redesign and ongoing management of the department’s website, collaborating with internal and external teams.
  • Develop and publish agency news and updates to the website as needed, and review content quarterly for accuracy and accessibility.
  • Provide communications support during emergencies or crises, including social media, web updates, and staffing the Joint Information Center if needed.

Ideal candidates will possess the following:

  • have prior digital marketing experience, are excellent copywriters, and are able to communicate complex messages in a clear, engaging way for diverse audiences.
  • availability to work during emergencies, including night and weekend work.
