LCI-Lineberger Construction Inc., located in Lancaster, SC, is a heavy highway and civil construction firm operating regionally to provide construction projects. We are currently seeking an experienced Shop Service Manager to join out team.
Position Summary:
The Shop Service Advisor is the primary point of contact between the construction company’s shop and Crews and Senior Leadership. This role opens and manages work orders, schedules repairs and preventive maintenance, coordinates parts and resources, communicates status updates, and ensures repairs are completed accurately, safely, and on time. The Shop Service Advisor supports technicians by providing clear repair information and supports the business by helping control costs, documenting work, and delivering a high level of customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive service requests (CMMS, walk-in, phone, email) and gather accurate information on symptoms, operating conditions, and jobsite needs.
- Create, update, and close work orders; verify equipment details (make/model/serial hours) and record all labor, parts, and sublet activity.
- Create POs needed for parts, vendors, and company purchases.
- Process daily invoices and handle pick tickets in a timely manner.
- Maintain parts inventory levels and ensure accuracy in the ERP system.
- Coordinate parts sourcing with the parts department/vendors; confirm availability, pricing, and delivery dates; manage returns/cores.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with Service Manager, Foreman, and Senior Leadership on providing status updates, delays, and completion notifications.
- Review technician notes for completeness and clarity; ensure the final invoice/work order includes accurate descriptions, cause/correction, and supporting documentation.
- Assist with warranty processing (documentation, photos, claim submission, authorizations) and ensure compliance with OEM requirements.
- Support preventive maintenance programs by scheduling PM services, tracking intervals/hours.
- Maintain organized service records and equipment history for future reference, recurring issues, and cost control.
- Help ensure a safe, clean, and compliant work environment by reinforcing shop policies, PPE requirements, and customer/visitor safety.
- Use the company’s maintenance/service software, spreadsheets, and phone systems to track work and communicate effectively.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support shop operations and customer satisfaction.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- 2 years of experience in a service advisor, service writer, or similar role in construction equipment, heavy truck, automotive, fleet, or industrial maintenance.
- Working knowledge of repair processes, parts terminology, and common maintenance practices (PM services, inspections, diagnostics workflow).
- Strong customer service and communication skills (phone, email, in person) with the ability to explain technical information in plain language.
- Proficiency with computers and business systems (work order/CMMS or ERP software, email, basic spreadsheets).
- Strong organization and time-management skills; ability to manage multiple work orders and shifting priorities.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation, estimates, and billing information.
- Ability to work collaboratively with technicians, foremen, and management in a fast-paced shop environment.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record (if required for the role).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting heavy equipment (excavators, dozers, loaders, skid steers), diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Prior dispatching/scheduling experience in a multi-bay shop.
- Familiarity with OEM warranty processes and service information systems.
- Ability to read and interpret repair orders, inspection forms, and basic technical documents.
- Experience with purchase orders, sublet management, and inventory/parts coordination.
