Overview:
LCI's Quality Control Technician Trainee is an hourly, skilled craft position in the heavy highway and civil construction industry. The position is best suited to someone who has a desire to learn, with a strong attention to detail, and is interested in math and science. The person(s) selected for this position will be taught to perform any combination of the duties described below:
Key Duties of a Quality Control Trainee:
Learn to test aggregate and asphalt to control the quality of the production of hot mix asphalt.
- Learn testing methods including, but not limited to, DOT regulations
- Develop effective communication skills and how to document QC test results
- Learn to calibrate testing equipment and conduct equipment testing
- Learn to prepare various QC reports and develop corrective recommendations to resolve or correct quality issues
- Perform incidental work tasks and duties in the construction industry
Qualification Requirements of a Quality Control Trainee:
- High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred
- Willingness to obtain DOT Certifications generally required for Quality Control Technician duties
- Prior experience in heavy highway & civil construction is preferred
- Valid Driver's License is required
- Follow safety protocol and adhere to safety policies and procedures
- Assess work environment for possible hazards
Physical Demands:
The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Quality Control Technician to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Consistent physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least 8 hours per day, frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in all types of weather
- Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis up to 50 lbs. personally, and up to 150 lbs. with assistance
- Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors and the operation of equipment and job site vehicles.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions
- Work environment sometimes exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typical to a construction site
- Work is regularly performed near heavy equipment and moving machinery
