Position Summary

We are seeking a Quality Manager to assume responsibility for the maintenance, effectiveness, and continual improvement of our ISO 9001:2015-certified Quality Management System (QMS).

This is a hands-on quality systems position rather than a supervisory role over a quality department. The Quality Manager will serve as the owner of the QMS and work across Engineering, Production, Project Management, Service, Purchasing, and company leadership to ensure that quality processes are effective, documented, understood, and consistently followed.

The position is responsible for maintaining ISO 9001:2015 conformity, coordinating internal and external audits, managing corrective action and nonconformance processes, maintaining document and record control, administering the calibration program, overseeing training records, supporting supplier quality, and preparing and leading Management Review.

The Quality Manager will assume responsibility for an established ISO 9001:2015-certified QMS and will work with existing personnel familiar with its development and operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and continually improve the company's Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 requirements.
  • Serve as a key internal resource for the interpretation and application of ISO 9001:2015 requirements.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct the company's internal audit program.
  • Coordinate external certification and surveillance audits, including audit preparation, interaction with external auditors, response to findings, and follow-up activities.
  • Prepare and lead Management Review meetings, including collection, analysis, and presentation of applicable QMS performance data.
  • Maintain the company's controlled document and record system, including procedures, work instructions, forms, revisions, approvals, distribution, and obsolete-document control.
  • Manage corrective action and nonconformance processes, including initiation, assignment, root-cause and corrective-action review, follow-up, and effectiveness verification.
  • Coordinate the evaluation and resolution of customer quality complaints, including corrective action when appropriate.
  • Identify significant quality concerns and call for a pause in production or shipment pending management review and disposition.
  • Establish and maintain quality standards, procedures, specifications, and quality-control requirements in coordination with appropriate personnel.
  • Develop and oversee inspection, testing, and acceptance processes used to verify product conformity.
  • Coordinate supplier quality activities, including supplier evaluation, performance monitoring, corrective actions, and supplier audits when appropriate.
  • Review applicable customer quality requirements, specifications, and contractual quality provisions and coordinate their implementation with appropriate departments.
  • Administer the company's calibration program, including calibration status, records, intervals, and appropriate response to out-of-calibration equipment.
  • Provide QMS-related training and maintain oversight of company training records to ensure required training is documented.
  • Train and coordinate employees serving as internal auditors.
  • Communicate QMS changes and quality requirements to affected personnel.
  • Work with Engineering, Production, Service, Purchasing, Project Management, and suppliers to investigate quality issues and improve processes.
  • Support the preparation and review of inspection plans, test procedures, acceptance criteria, quality records, certificates, and other project-specific quality documentation as required.
  • Monitor QMS performance and provide management with information regarding quality concerns, trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • Direct, hands-on experience working with an ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System.
  • Experience conducting internal quality audits.
  • Working knowledge of corrective action, root-cause analysis, nonconformance control, document control, and quality records.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to objectively evaluate processes and requirements and maintain impartiality when addressing quality concerns.
  • Ability to work effectively across departments and communicate quality requirements to employees at different levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general business software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years of relevant experience in quality assurance, quality systems, quality engineering, or a related quality function.
  • Experience supporting or leading ISO 9001 certification or surveillance audits.
  • Previous responsibility for maintaining or administering an ISO 9001-certified QMS.
  • Experience with supplier quality, calibration systems, corrective actions, or supplier audits.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, particularly custom equipment, metal fabrication, welding, or machining.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and customer quality requirements.
  • Experience developing or administering inspection, testing, or product-acceptance requirements.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Formal ISO 9001 internal auditor or lead auditor training.
  • Quality-related certifications, such as ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), or other relevant certifications.

A college degree in quality, engineering, manufacturing, business, or a related field is beneficial but is not required. Relevant practical experience with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems will be given significant consideration.

What the Role Offers

This position provides the opportunity to take ownership of an established ISO 9001:2015-certified Quality Management System while having access to existing personnel with experience in its development and operation.

Because we are a small manufacturing organization, the Quality Manager works directly with the people responsible for engineering, purchasing, building, testing, servicing, and managing our products. This provides visibility into the entire organization and the opportunity to directly influence both the QMS and the processes it supports.

The role is particularly well suited for a quality professional with practical ISO 9001 experience who is ready to take greater ownership of a QMS and its continued development.

Work Environment and Schedule

This is a full-time, hourly, on-site position.

Normal Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

The position involves a combination of office work and regular interaction with personnel in a manufacturing and assembly environment.

Travel is not a regular requirement. Occasional travel to suppliers or other locations may be required based on quality needs.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to periodically stand and walk through manufacturing and assembly areas.
  • Ability to visually review products, documentation, records, and manufacturing activities.
  • Ability to safely work in and navigate a manufacturing and assembly environment.
