What are the responsibilities and job description for the Security Guard for Night Patrol position at Layer Security Services?
Layer Security Services is seeking a patrol guard to cover two sites nightly located at the 77076 & 77530 zip codes in Houston, TX. The hours will vary between the hours of 6:00PM to 6:00AM with 3 patrols expected per shift for each property. A security vehicle will be provided along with gas reimbursement.
Job Outline:
- Patrol & Monitoring
- Conduct scheduled and random mobile patrols between two assigned sites as directed.
- Perform perimeter checks (doors, windows, gates, fences, parking lots) to ensure they are secured.
- Conduct interior patrols where authorized, including common areas, offices, warehouses, and other critical areas.
- Observe and report suspicious activity, safety hazards, or security breaches.
- Monitor and report on lighting, locks, alarms, and any damage or maintenance issues at both locations.
- Incident Response & Reporting
- Respond promptly to alarms, emergencies, and incidents at either site, following company protocols.
- Contact law enforcement, fire, or medical services when necessary and coordinate with them on scene.
- Complete clear, accurate, and timely written reports (daily activity reports, incident reports, vehicle logs, etc.).
- Maintain regular communication with the supervisor and/or dispatch regarding patrol status and incidents.
- Customer Service & Professionalism
- Provide professional, courteous assistance to clients, employees, and visitors.
- Enforce client and company policies in a fair and respectful manner.
- Maintain a neat, well-groomed appearance and wear the assigned uniform correctly at all times.
- Represent the company positively at all times while on duty and while operating the patrol vehicle.
- Vehicle & Equipment Care
- Safely operate a company or approved personal vehicle between sites in all weather conditions.
- Conduct pre- and post-shift vehicle inspections; report any damage or mechanical issues immediately.
- Properly use and care for radios, cell phones, flashlights, keys, and any other issued equipment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Prior security, law enforcement, or military experience preferred but not required.
- Licenses & Certifications
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
- Must meet all state and local licensing requirements for security officers/guards (if applicable).
- Ability to obtain and maintain any client-specific clearances or badges.
- Skills & Competencies
- Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly; strong written report skills.
- Strong attention to detail and situational awareness.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in stressful or emergency situations.
- Professional communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining accountability.
- State/local guard license in current and in good standing.
- License must be carried while on duty.
- Minimum age: 21
- Work authorization: Legally eligible to work in the country.
- Valid, non-expired driver’s license.
Pass Background check which will consist of:
- Criminal background screening passed per company and client standards.
- Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) with no serious violations (DUIs, reckless driving, excessive points) within company-defined period.
- No disqualifying offenses (e.g., violent felonies, theft, fraud, weapons violations, etc.).
- Drug/alcohol screening:
- Subject to random or post-incident testing.
- Fit for duty (not under the influence of alcohol or drugs).
