Schedule: 8–10 hour shifts, day shift, night shift, weekends as needed, on-call rotation
Location: Lawton, OK
Lawton Area Transit System is hiring a Transit Supervisor / Bus Operations Supervisor to oversee daily public transportation operations, driver supervision, dispatch coordination, route coverage, safety compliance, and customer service support.
This leadership position plays a key role in ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient bus service for the Lawton and Fort Sill community. The Transit Supervisor will work closely with bus operators, dispatch staff, operations leadership, maintenance personnel, and the public to support daily transit service, route performance, schedule adherence, and compliance with transportation safety standards.
This position is ideal for experienced CDL drivers, transportation supervisors, dispatch managers, fleet coordinators, bus operators, logistics supervisors, or public transit professionals who are ready to step into a leadership role within a stable, community-focused transit system.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise, coach, support, and evaluate bus operators and dispatch staff
Manage daily bus operations, route coverage, driver assignments, and schedule coordination
Monitor on-time performance, passenger pick-ups, drop-offs, route delays, and service disruptions
Ensure compliance with DOT safety standards, FTA regulations, drug and alcohol testing requirements, and company policies
Coordinate with dispatch to address driver call-ins, route coverage issues, service interruptions, and customer concerns
Investigate, document, and follow up on accidents, incidents, passenger complaints, safety concerns, and operational issues
Conduct driver ride-alongs, performance observations, safety checks, and field supervision
Maintain accurate records including attendance reports, route sheets, incident logs, accident reports, and operational documentation
Assist with driver training, coaching, corrective action, and performance improvement when needed
Communicate clearly between operations leadership, dispatch, maintenance, drivers, and frontline staff
Operate a bus or serve as a backup driver when needed to maintain service coverage
Promote a professional, safety-first, team-oriented work environment
Support reliable public transportation service for essential workers, students, seniors, individuals with disabilities, military personnel, veterans, and the general public
Requirements
Valid Class B CDL with Passenger Endorsement required
Current DOT medical card required
Must be at least 21 years old
Clean driving record required
No DUI/DWI or major moving violations within the past 3 years
Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening in accordance with FTA requirements
Knowledge of traffic laws, defensive driving practices, bus safety procedures, and transit operations
Experience in public transportation, passenger transportation, logistics, dispatch, fleet operations, or driver supervision preferred
Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Ability to remain calm and professional during service disruptions, emergencies, complaints, or high-pressure situations
Basic to intermediate computer skills required
Ability to complete reports, documentation, schedules, and operational records accurately
Must be dependable, professional, safety-minded, and team-oriented
Preferred Experience
Public transportation experience
Bus operator experience
CDL passenger transportation experience
Dispatch or route coordination experience
Fleet supervision or transportation management experience
Experience supervising drivers or frontline employees
Knowledge of FTA, DOT, and workplace safety compliance
Accident, incident, or complaint investigation experience
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Work may include office, dispatch, field, bus, and outdoor environments
Ability to work outdoors in extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and changing weather conditions
Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, and perform field supervision duties as needed
Ability to lift up to 50–75 lbs occasionally
Exposure to bus operations, vehicle noise, traffic conditions, mechanical environments, and public interaction
Must be able to respond to operational needs, service issues, and driver support requests in a timely manner
