Laborer

Perform installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance of the gas, water, and sewer facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Install, repair, and/or replace service lines, main lines, and meters for gas, water, and sewer facilities.
• Assist with the maintenance of water and sewer lift stations.
• Assist with the maintenance of gas regulator stations.
• Operate hand tools and construction equipment such as jackhammers, pumps, air compressors, etc.
• Respond to customer complaints regarding gas, water, and sewer leaks.
• Assist with gas, water, and sewer surveys.
• Drive company vehicles.
• Assist in emergency situations.
• Subject to overtime, emergency call-out, and stand-by.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

• Ability to use mathematical skills to be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure.

• Attend work regularly and on time.
• Ability to work scheduled and non-scheduled overtime.
• Attend safety training and other meetings as scheduled.
• Ability to follow all safety guidelines required by OSHA.
• Ability to work outside and be exposed to noisy places, fumes, chemicals, toxic substances, and machinery.
• Ability to be exposed to weather conditions that are cold, hot, rainy, and windy.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to use eyes, hands, and fingers.
• Ability to walk and stand for 8 hours a day.
• Ability to talk, see, hear, reach, handle, and feel.
• Ability to stoop, bend, climb, crawl, and twist.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid State of Tennessee Class A Commercial Driver’s License or ability to obtain within two years required.
• State of Tennessee Grade II Distribution System Operator or Grade II Wastewater Collection System Operator Certificate or ability to obtain within two years required.
• State of Tennessee Gas Operator Qualification (OQ) or ability to obtain within two years required.
• Certification of Completion of Flagger Training Course or ability to obtain within two years required.
