Position Summary:
The Lawrence University Shuttle Driver/Campus Safety Person is a part-time position whose responsibilities will be to safely transport Faculty, Staff and Students on a call for a ride basis. Individuals will request rides from Lawrence University’s Main Campus to the Athletic and Administration buildings, West Campus, medical appointments, and other rides as directed by the Director of Campus Safety.
This position will also include some Campus Safety responsibilities. When acting as a Campus Safety person, the role will include unlocking/locking buildings, patrolling on foot and in a vehicle, assisting Lawrence Community members, and other duties as assigned.
We are seeking a candidate who demonstrates flexibility in working hours. Most of the responsibility will be to drive the shuttle sometime between 3pm and 11pm, Monday through Friday. Campus safety duties include weekend sporting events, evening sporting events, and shift coverage.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Shuttle Driving
- Greets each customer with a smile, offering to assist with loading items if needed.
- Provides quick and pleasant customer courtesy, service, and satisfaction.
- Follows all established procedures for Shuttle Drivers, including pre and post trip inspections, designated routes, accurate record-keeping, and regular, effective cellular communication.
- Comply with all applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations and requirements governing, including Department of Transportation.
- Maintains accurate familiarity with the Campus and general area to answer questions and provide helpful information to passengers.
- Maintains a clean, pleasant, and calm environment inside the shuttle (including but not limited to, windows rolled up, company approved audio/video playing, interior lights on, no air freshener spraying, no items on the dashboard, and no food).
- Cooperates with all team members to provide the best possible service to all internal and external customers.
- Complies with appearance guidelines.
- Follows all university policies and procedures as set forth in the Employee Handbook.
- Performs additional duties as reasonably requested by Management, especially during down times.
Campus Safety
- Guard, patrol, and monitor premises to prevent theft, violence, or infractions of rules.
- Record and enter reports and work orders into databases to include daily logs, incident reports, fire alarm reports, theft/loss reports, and more.
- Answer telephone calls to answer questions and provide information.
- Transmit emergency calls to the appropriate Lawrence personnel or local police department.
- Conduct routine checks and secure/unlock doors on campus at designated times.
- Enforce parking regulations and violations.
- Investigate minor complaints related to noise, suspicious activity, theft, etc. Provide walking or vehicle escorts to students, staff, and faculty.
Perform monthly fire extinguisher and fire system inspections
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Capability is more important than credentials. High school diploma or equivalent is preferred, but not required.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and critical thinking.
- Works well in a team-oriented environment.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to meet and maintain the university’s authorized driver status requirements.
- Must have a good driving record as reported by the Department of Transportation.
- Must be able to climb a 12 ft. stepladder.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Must be able to read and follow instructions, directions, and safety procedures.
- Excellent driving skills and a commitment to co-worker, customer, and vehicle safety.
- Previous driver and/or customer service experience is preferred.
