Job Description: Organization: Lawrence Public Schools Job Title: Group 3 Paraprofessional Location: Lawrence High School Reports To: Teacher and Administrators Role Summary: The role of the paraprofessional in the classroom is to work under the supervision of a professional service provider to directly or indirectly assist and support in providing services to students in the classroom. The role and assignments of a paraprofessional are not defined by a particular student, setting, or program but rather by students’ needs. Description of Paraprofessional Duties: The duties of the paraprofessional may vary based on specific assignments. Duties may also change at any time based on administration or teacher reexamination of student or program needs. Essential Functions and Responsibilities-Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Follow all rules policies and procedures of the Lawrence Public Schools along with state and federal regulations pertaining to special education Present self in a professional manner in dress, conduct and behavior Maintain appropriate boundaries and confidentiality with students and other professionals Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPPA regulations Seek out and actively engage in professional development activities Become familiar with IEPs and assist with execution of goals and accommodations Monitor and engage with students at all times during work hours unless directed otherwise Be familiar with lesson plans and duties associated with them for each lesson Assist with the delivery of special services; assist with daily living skills; feed and toilet students if necessary; and assist with any other task students are unable to perform for themselves as directed by the supervising teacher Work with individuals and/or small groups to deliver special education services Implement de-escalation skills, behavior management strategies, behavior intervention plan, and crisis intervention as needed Knowledge in working with students who have Autism is preferred Knowledge working in an ABA setting (Applied Behavior Analysis) is preferred Properly document serious student incidents Communicate with ancillary providers as directed Be familiar with and facilitate lesson plans and duties associated with them on a as needed basis Perform related duties as requested as assigned by teacher or administrator As part of the job requirements and responsibilities, the Autism/ILP paraprofessional must maintain yearly Crisis Intervention Prevention (CPI) and/or Safety Care training and certification.
