What are the responsibilities and job description for the Probation Officer position at Lawrence County Jail?
The Probation Officer is responsible for supervising individuals placed on court- ordered probation, monitoring compliance with court mandates, and connecting clients with needed services to promote rehabilitation and reduce recidivism. The officer will coordinate closely with judges, attorneys, law enforcement, court offices, treatment providers, and community partners to support effective supervision and community reintegration.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Maintain a caseload of misdemeanor or post-plea offenders assigned by the courts.
· Conduct initial intake interviews and develop supervision plans based on court conditions.
· Meet regularly with probationers in person and/or remotely to monitor compliance.
· Perform drug and alcohol screenings as required.
· Refer clients to treatment, education, employment, or community service programs
· Maintain accurate case notes, violation reports, and court updates in accordance with state and local standards.
· Appear in court to provide testimony or progress reports.
· Collaborate with law enforcement, court officers, and community partners.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, psychology, social work, or a related field.
· Prior experience in probation, corrections, law enforcement, or social services preferred.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to work with diverse individuals in a firm, fair, and respectful manner.
· Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for field work.
Pay: $60,000.00 per year
