A large distribution center in St. Peters MO is looking for an Operations Manager to oversee all aspects of distribution center operations including daily execution of shipping and receiving activities as well as quality control/auditing of orders prior to shipping. This role involves managing and leading a team of Operations Supervisors, coaching and mentoring them to ensure performance objectives are met. The Operations Manager is also responsible for building and maintaining positive employee relations and developing leadership strength within the Distribution Center (DC). This position requires a strategic leader who can balance operational excellence with team development while driving results across all areas of the facility.
Responsibilities:
- Leads the development and implementation of daily operating plans that optimize the utilization of people resources as well as equipment, staging and storage space.
- Responsible for overall performance of the operations team, including safety, quality and customer carrier experience.
- Sets and clarifies requirements and expectations for Operations Supervisors Measures performance, provides feedback, and holds supervisors accountable for their own performance as well as the performance of their teams.
- Leverages the entire operations team by sourcing and nurturing ideas, and rolling them into the creation of improvement plans for the functional areas.
- Takes complete ownership for maintaining a “safety first” culture within the distribution center by developing and executing safety training processes and procedures.
- Consistently documents operations related processes and refines them within a culture of continuous improvement.
Additional Job Elements:
- Lift and move cartons up to 49 pounds each
- Regular bending, lifting, stretching and reaching both below the waist and above the head
- Ability and willingness to work extended hours and occasional weekends in order to meet scheduled requirements.
- Ability to work in a distribution/warehouse environment that may be noisy, with ambient temperatures ranging from 50 degrees in winter to 90 degrees /- in the summer.
- Extended periods of walking and standing are to be expected.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to handle multiple, changing priorities and use good judgment in stressful situations
- Willingness to be a “hands-on” leader and pitch in anywhere in operations as needed
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude and lead by example when stress levels increase
- Experience coaching and developing salaried supervisor/leaders
- Bachelor's degree preferred, relevant experience considered in lieu of a degree.
