What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Law Clerk position at Law Offices of Paul D. Petruzzi PA?
Summer Legal Intern / Law Clerk Opportunity
Want a summer legal experience that is anything but ordinary? The Law Offices of Paul Petruzzi is looking for a motivated legal intern or law clerk ready to dive into the fast-paced world of criminal defense in Miami — where the cases are serious, the facts are fascinating, and every day offers something new to learn. This is a great opportunity to gain practical experience, build your professional network, attend court hearings, and work alongside skilled attorneys and other professionals in the criminal defense field.
Our office handles a wide range of serious, complex, and high-profile state and federal matters, including drug trafficking, firearms offenses, white-collar cases, celebrity-related matters, and other criminal defense cases that will give the right candidate meaningful exposure to the practice of law.
This summer position offers hands-on experience with legal research, writing, discovery review, client communication, trial preparation, court hearings, and the day-to-day operations of a busy criminal defense office. Clerks will have the opportunity to attend court hearings, assist with case-related tasks under the supervision of experienced attorneys, and meet with clients at correctional facilities to review discovery or assist with related paralegal duties.
This is an unpaid summer internship/clerkship opportunity, with the possibility of a small stipend upon successful completion based on performance. For the right candidate, this position may also lead to full-time employment. Internship-related expenses, such as parking, will be covered.
Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:
1L students are welcome to apply; 2L and 3L students will also be considered.
Applicants must be located in South Florida and able to work in the Miami office at least twice per week. Candidates should be available at least 20 hours per week, with limited remote work available when appropriate.
The ideal candidate should have strong legal research and writing skills, excellent grammar and attention to detail, professionalism, reliability, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality. We are looking for someone who is organized, proactive, objective, non-judgmental, able to follow directions, meet deadlines, think critically, work well under pressure, and maintain strong phone and email etiquette.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with Westlaw, LexisNexis, or other legal research tools is preferred.
A great attitude, common sense, curiosity, and the ability to make a decent cup of coffee will also be appreciated — though we promise the legal skills matter more.
Additional duties may be assigned as part of the educational and training experience.
Preferred qualifications include:
Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish, and social media skills.
Our office environment is casual and collegial, but we work hard and take our responsibility to our clients seriously. This is a great opportunity for a student who wants real exposure to criminal defense practice, is eager to learn, and is not easily intimidated by interesting facts, court calendars, correctional facilities, tight deadlines, or Miami traffic.
