What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Attorney position at Law Office of Sofia K Miguel, PLLC?
Associate Attorney – Plaintiff Personal Injury (Pre‑Litigation, Primarily Remote)
Ready to fast‑track your plaintiff personal injury career in a primarily remote role with real responsibility from day one? Join a small, growing firm where you’ll handle attorney‑level pre‑litigation work with strong team support, work directly with the owner, and see the impact of your work on real clients. If you’re relationship‑oriented, organized, and eager to grow into a high‑responsibility plaintiff PI role, this could be the right fit.
The Law Office of Sofia Miguel PLLC is seeking an Associate Attorney to join the pre‑litigation team and help deliver excellent results and service to injured clients. This role is ideal for an attorney who enjoys direct client contact, wants meaningful responsibility early, and is excited to grow with a small but ambitious firm.
The firm is looking for someone who wants to grow with us long‑term in a high‑responsibility associate role, not a short‑term stopover.
About the firm
- Plaintiff‑side personal injury practice serving clients in a supportive, relationship‑driven environment.
- Core values include integrity, compassion, excellence, and a commitment to making a positive impact on clients and the community.
- Small, collaborative pre‑litigation team structure (attorney plus 3 team members) handling cases from intake through resolution.
Work environment
- This is a primarily remote position; however, the Associate Attorney must reside within commuting distance of our office and be available to work in person for team meetings, trainings, court‑related matters, or other needs as they arise.
- While this role is primarily remote, you’ll be part of a closely coordinated team working on a synchronous schedule during normal business hours, with some reasonable flexibility as needed.
Role and responsibilities
- Serve as the primary pre‑litigation attorney for a portfolio of personal injury cases, focusing on strategy, legal analysis, and issues escalated by the case management team from intake through resolution.
- Provide clear, compassionate client communication and counseling throughout the pre‑litigation phase of each case.
- Evaluate new matters, handle strategy and case planning, direct investigations, and make key legal decisions—while the case management team, led by the Operations Manager, handles day‑to‑day client communication, insurance issues, and routine correspondence, escalating complex or legal questions to you as needed.
- Review and finalize settlement demands, including analysis of liability, damages, and insurance coverage, with increasing involvement in negotiations as you develop in the role.
- Coordinate with medical providers, insurance adjusters, and, when needed, the litigation team to ensure smooth handoffs if a matter proceeds to suit.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of systems, workflows, and client‑service standards within the pre‑litigation team.
Success in this role looks like: high‑quality case outcomes for clients, consistent movement of files, excellent client communication, and collaborative leadership within your team.
Ideal candidate
- Licensed to practice law in Washington, with an interest in or experience with plaintiff personal injury.
- 0–3 years of experience; new admittees with strong internships, clinics, or clerkships in litigation or PI are encouraged to apply.
- Prior experience in personal injury preferred.
- Strong client communication and relationship‑building skills, with a professional and empathetic approach.
- Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to manage a volume of cases while meeting deadlines and maintaining excellent follow‑through.
- Comfortable working with cloud‑based case management systems (experience with CASEpeer or similar software is a plus).
- Team player who enjoys collaborating closely with case managers and the owner/Managing Attorney.
Compensation and benefits
- Annual base salary of $80,168.40, paid in accordance with standard firm payroll practices.
- Eligibility for a quarterly performance‑based production bonus under the firm’s bonus plan, tied to the fees generated by the pre‑litigation team and firm‑wide financial performance.
- In ordinary quarters where firm overhead has been met, attorney bonuses are based on a percentage of surplus fees or team‑level collected fees, with higher bonuses as performance increases.
- In strong quarters, bonuses can increase total compensation (salary bonus), providing a clear path to six‑figure earnings over time as the team consistently hits fee targets.
- Bonuses are discretionary, not guaranteed, and subject to firm‑level safeguards and caps to ensure sustainability and fairness across the team.
- Comprehensive benefits package including: health insurance, dental insurance, SIMPLE IRA with employer contribution, 14 paid holidays, and PTO accrual (currently 3 hours for every 40 hours worked, or as updated by the firm).
Growth and development
- Access to training, mentorship, and career‑development initiatives as the firm expands.
- Direct mentorship from the owner/Managing Attorney, with hands‑on experience in personal injury work.
- Clear path to increase earnings through strong case outcomes, consistent pre‑litigation team performance, and long‑term contribution to firm growth.
- The firm is seeking someone who wants to grow with us long‑term in a high‑responsibility associate position, with increasing autonomy and compensation over time.
