Lavelle Medical is a contract manufacturer producing high precision parts based on customer specifications. Lavelle is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer.
Responsibilities will include:
- Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing methods and document manufacturing processes to maximize efficiency and produce machined parts to customer specifications;
- Develop fully costed BOMs and maintain detailed process plans, routings, setup sheets, tool lists, and work instructions for CNC mills, lathes, EDM, grinding, welding, and secondary operations;
- Evaluate incoming customer drawings, specifications, and requirements, coordinate with Line Lead personnel to determine the most efficient and cost-effective manufacturing methods, sequences, and tooling strategies in a high-mix, low-volume environment;
- Utilize best in class Lean Six-Sigma principles to optimize production and quality;
- Assist in Customer RFQ Preparation – determine costing / pricing of individual machined parts;
- Provide CAD support for CAM activity;
- Determine supplier requirements and issue RFQs and purchase orders to suppliers, as necessary, completely specifying requirements necessary to meet customer contractual obligations;
- Integrate outsourced product into the production stream;
- Review final planning and provide sign off approval authorizing release to manufacturing;
- Review engineering change requests submitted by Floor Managers and Line Leads;
- Update Travelers and related documents if engineering change requests are approved;
- Interact with customer service personnel to address customer and supplier-related orders;
- Interact with customers to improve designs for manufacturability;
Less Essential Duties / Functions:
- Manage customer-specific label printing processes for product release;
- Proactively identify perceived risks associated with customer orders;
- Interact with Floor Managers and Line Leads to optimize set-up processes and reduce overall set-up and cycle times;
- Analyze and correct manufacturing problems while working on continuous productivity improvements;
- Evaluate current manufacturing processes, to identify variables and factors that influence efficiencies and nonconformances;
- Assist vice president and management team with review of customer inquiries;
- Perform validations and special process requests from customers, as needed;
- Track age sensitive materials used in the production process through an Excel spreadsheet;
- Assist with Laser Weld instructions and processing;
- Participate in MRB to identify root cause and corrective action;
- Interact with Assembly personnel to explain and demonstrate requirements, as needed;
- Support implementation and maintenance of quality standards (ISO 9001, ISO 13485) through process controls and documentation.
- Forecast and estimate potential stock requirements based on sales reports and customer forecasts;
- Oversee inventory management;
- Conduct audits of inventory and evaluation of related records;
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, or closely related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- 3–5 years of manufacturing engineering experience, preferably in a job shop, contract manufacturing, or precision machine shop environment.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in team environment;
- Strong technical knowledge of metal working and plating processes;
- Ability to read & interpret engineering instructions & blueprints;
- Ability to understand complex geometry, drawing requirements and geometric tolerancing;
- Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, or similar) for reviewing drawings and designing fixtures. (Lavelle utilizes SolidWorks); Experience with JobBOSS a plus
- Possess strong process engineering skills including: work piece control concepts, tolerance stacking, datum controls, and fixturing concepts; Lean Six Sigma knowledge and certifications a plus;
- Able to use and interpret precision measuring devices including micrometers, verniers, hand tools & gages;
- Understands and follows company policies that apply to one's job and maintains a high level of professionalism, ethics and compliance at all times.
