About the Role:
The Credit Manager for a Retail Lumberyard plays a critical role in managing the credit operations to ensure the financial health and stability of the business. This position is responsible for overseeing credit policies, evaluating customer creditworthiness, and managing accounts receivable to minimize risk and optimize cash flow. The Credit Manager collaborates closely with sales, finance, and customer service teams to facilitate smooth credit transactions and resolve any credit-related issues promptly. By maintaining strong relationships with customers and internal stakeholders, the Credit Manager helps support business growth while safeguarding against potential credit losses. Ultimately, this role ensures that credit practices align with company objectives and regulatory requirements, contributing to the overall profitability and operational efficiency of the lumberyard.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of credit analysis, risk assessment, and collections processes.
- Proficiency with credit management software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in the lumberyard or building materials retail sector.
- Familiarity with industry-specific credit and sales software systems.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing a credit or collections team.
- Knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations affecting credit and collections.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and approve credit applications for new and existing customers based on established credit policies and financial analysis.
- Monitor customer accounts to identify and address overdue payments, working proactively to resolve disputes and negotiate payment plans when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of credit transactions, customer communications, and account status to support reporting and audit requirements.
- Collaborate with sales and customer service teams to provide credit guidance and support, ensuring customer satisfaction while managing credit risk.
- Prepare regular reports on credit performance, delinquency trends, and risk exposure for senior management review.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies related to credit and collections.
- Lead and train credit department staff to maintain high standards of accuracy, efficiency, and customer service.
