Overview

The Lavaca County Auditor position is a vital role responsible for overseeing the financial operations and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations within Lavaca County. This role requires a highly skilled professional with expertise in governmental and corporate accounting, financial analysis, and regulatory reporting. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, comprehensive knowledge of accounting standards such as GAAP and GAAS, and experience with financial software and internal audits. The Auditor will play a key role in maintaining transparency, accuracy, and integrity in all financial activities of the county.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough internal audits to assess compliance with statutory requirements and internal controls.
  • Prepare detailed financial reports, including analysis of financial data and recommendations for improvements.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory standards such as SOX, COSO frameworks, and GAAP in all accounting practices.
  • Manage general ledger accounting processes and oversee the integrity of financial data within accounting software systems.
  • Perform risk management assessments related to financial operations and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee governmental accounting functions, including budget analysis, tax reporting, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Lead or assist in external audits by providing necessary documentation and ensuring audit readiness.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in public sector financial management.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and effective financial management strategies.

Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of governmental accounting standards, including GAAP, GAAS, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Strong understanding of SOX compliance, COSO frameworks, and internal control processes.
  • Proven experience in financial report writing, analysis skills, and technical accounting principles.
  • Proficiency with accounting software, financial software systems, and general ledger accounting tools.
  • Demonstrated ability in financial analysis, risk management, auditing, and internal audits within a public or corporate setting.
  • Excellent analytical skills combined with a solid foundation in financial concepts relevant to public sector finance.
  • Experience with tax processes, regulatory compliance, and governmental financial management practices.
  • Strong communication skills for preparing reports and collaborating with all county departments. Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $70,000.00 per year
