INSTRUCTIONAL COACH

SUMMARY: The primary purpose is to provide systematic intervention to students and to improve academic achievement.

GENERAL SUMMARY
Under general direction, develops and implements District instructional programs. Develops and administers budgets, coordinates curriculum initiatives, provides teacher support and resources, administers staff development, etc. Reports to the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning and the Principal.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Coordinates the development and implementation of District instructional programs.
- Reviews test scores, requirements set by law, and recommends instructional strategies needed to meet requirements and improve test scores.
- Assesses staff development needs and administers appropriate development activities via workshops, individual instruction, courses, etc.
- Provides materials, information, and advice to individual schools and teachers.
- Support classroom teachers on a daily basis through modeling and co-teaching.
- Tutors students individually or in small groups.
- Reviews and researches new developments in education by participating in local, state and national conferences and meetings and working cooperatively with state consultants.
- Promotes the professional growth of teachers in grades K-12 by encouraging active participation in national, state, and local educational organizations.
- Promotes improved coordination and articulation of instruction at the elementary, middle and high school levels.
- Facilitate curriculum planning and instructional leadership.
- Serves as a member for textbook adoption committees.
- Seeks funding to enhance instruction.
- Assists in the retention of new teachers.
- Increases public awareness and understanding of the District instructional programs by speaking to PTOs and other civic organizations and assists in the preparation of related press releases.
- Interacts and communicates with parents, coworkers, administrators, committees, teachers, professional staff, government agencies, and others in the performance of job activities.
- Supports the instructional development of all teachers in understanding the specified curriculum, varied assessments, and data analysis.
- Builds strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches.
- Provides direction and coordination for how the curriculum is taught consistent with District initiatives and recognized best instructional practices.
- Creates an articulated schedule with building administration.
- Assists teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources.
- Supports teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels.
- Assists teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students. Support teachers by helping with the ?strategic how of teaching __ share multiple instructional strategies/processes with teachers during planning times.
- Informally observes (non-evaluative) lessons and provides feedback for a teacher’s professional growth and students’ success.
- Develops staff members’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designs.
- Submits a weekly coaching log and develops coaching plans for teachers to ensure student improvement.
- Contributes to the development of systems and structures to improve teacher practice within schools.
- Provides job-embedded informal professional learning beyond the coaching responsibility.
- Performs other related duties as assigned/required.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Related Teacher Certification
Master’s degree
Five years of experience – minimum
Read to Succeed Endorsement
4.0 Evaluator and Mentor Certificates preferred
Knowledge of best practice
Exceptional written/oral communication skills
Evidence of leadership skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Experience in leading professional development activities
Must possess a valid teaching certificate and other certifications as designated
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
One hundred ninety (190) days per year.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
