Temporary Part-Time Graduation Coach
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Temporary Part-Time Graduation Coach is responsible for supporting students in grades 9-12 who are at risk of not graduating on time. This temporary part-time position focuses on academic monitoring, attendance improvement, credit recovery support, and personalized student interventions. The Temporary Part-Time Graduation Coach works collaboratively with school staff, families, and community partners to increase student engagement, promote on-time graduation, and reduce dropout rates in Laurens County School District 55.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Identify and monitor students at risk of academic failure, chronic absenteeism, or dropout. Track student progress toward graduation requirements, including credits, assessments, and attendance.
Provide one-on-one and small-group support focused on academic planning, goal setting, and organization.
Collaborate with teachers, counselors, administrators, and support staff to develop and implement intervention plans.
Assist students with credit recovery options, tutoring supports, and alternative learning pathways as appropriate.
Communicate regularly with students and families regarding academic progress, attendance, and graduation plans.
Support transitions between grade levels and postsecondary planning (college, career, military, or workforce).
Encourage positive student engagement, self-advocacy, and accountability.
Maintain accurate documentation, data tracking, and reports as required by the school or district. Participate in meetings, professional development, and training as required (within part-time schedule).
All other duties as assigned/required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, social work, or a related field. Experience working with high school-aged students.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations in a secondary school setting.
Preferred:
Valid teaching or counseling certification.
Experience in dropout prevention, credit recovery, or student intervention programs.
Knowledge of graduation requirements and high school scheduling.
Experience collaborating with families and community agencies.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Ninety (90) days /20 hours per week for one (1) semester
RESPONSIBILITY: Supervision of students
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Certified Staff
Working Conditions:
Physical demands are restricted to general office activities, walking standing and the ability to complete light physical tasks of up to 15 pounds. Requires the ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention and meeting deadlines. Duties of the job require the use of a computer monitor and related equipment.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondences. Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, other employees and/or students.
Math Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interests, commissions, and percentages. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to deal with problems involving a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to develop effective working relationships with staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and the Board policies.
