Position/Title: Middle & Upper School Choir Teacher
Appointment: School Year 2026/2027
Reports To: Director of the Upper School

Position Summary
We seek a choral teacher with vision to inspire student creativity and commitment, and drive innovative programs and recruitment. The candidate would direct the Middle and Upper School choirs, serve as music director for the Middle and Upper School musicals, and teach high-school-level elective courses such as guitar class and music theory. The candidate should have a strong foundation in music technique and pedagogy, while being mindful of the social-emotional needs of growing musicians. The ability to direct a pit orchestra and serve as a rehearsal pianist is a must. We seek teachers interested in working collaboratively with other Laurel teachers, enthusiastic about the opportunity to design curriculum—including lessons that take advantage of our 140-acre Butler campus as an outdoor classroom—and adept at differentiating instruction. Flexibility, a sense of humor, and a deep desire to be an educator outside of the classroom—working with students in many capacities—are invaluable qualities at Laurel School.
Duties And Responsibilities Include
The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and a minimum of three to five years teaching experience at the middle and/or high school level is preferred. The successful candidate will also possess a positive attitude, excellent written and verbal skills, strong organizational skills, and proven success within a work setting that requires collaboration, cooperation, and collegiality. The candidate must possess or acquire and maintain a State of Ohio-issued teaching certificate. The ability to lead one or more co-curricular activities, or to coach a sport, is desirable. Duties And Responsibilities Include
- Preparation and implementation of daily lessons
- Delivery of assignments and timely evaluation of all relevant class work and student progress
- Design and implementation of appropriate, authentic assessments and support of individual student learning styles
- Timely and proactive communication with parents about student progress
- Serving as an advisor to a small group of students
- Collaboration with other members of the faculty, administration, and staff on experiential, interdisciplinary and community-based opportunities that add to the school community
- Active participation in all faculty and staff meetings
- Effective and timely communication with varied school constituencies in person, through email and through voicemail
- Support of divisional and school-wide initiatives through committee work, where appropriate
- Other duties as assigned
