What are the responsibilities and job description for the Elementary Academic Tutor position at Laughlin Children's Center?
Laughlin Children’s Center (The Center) is seeking a part-time Elementary Academic Tutor to join our team! The Center’s mission is to empower children with the skills they need to be successful in life. The Center has a long tradition of offering multidisciplinary educational support to children from preschool through high school.
Reporting to the Academic Department Director, the Elementary Academic Tutor will plan and provide instruction for clients with a variety of educational needs. If you possess a strong literacy, math, and/or writing instructional skill set and are dedicated to helping children, we want to hear from you!

What you will do:
- Review students’ records upon assignment; meet with the Academic Department Director to discuss individual students’ needs as needed.
- Provide individualized instruction for a negotiated amount of time per week in-person and/or online. Typically scheduled between the hours of 3:00-7:00 pm.
- Utilize the best practices and modern methods of instruction in the student’s area of need
- Document instruction and progress regularly to compile a comprehensive progress report at the end of each term (school year and summer).
- Establish and maintain communication with parents, contact client families if unable to hold sessions on an assigned day.
- Collaborate with Academic Department Director on community outreach programs such as presentations for local organizations, screenings, and professional development.
- Attend in-service and/or department meetings as they are scheduled
- Perform all other duties, as assigned.
What you will bring:
- PA Department of Education instructional certification required.
- Previous instructional experience is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information is a must.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills.
- Passion for working with children with disabilities.
- Knowledge of current research on instruction in the area of reading, math, writing, and/or executive functioning skills
- Ability to read, understand, analyze, and interpret educational evaluation documents.
- Strong organizational skills, self-initiative, and desire for ongoing learning.
Licensure, Certifications and Clearances:
- Pennsylvania Department of Education teaching certificate required.
- Federal Criminal History Check, Pennsylvania Criminal History Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance, and FBI fingerprinting required.
