What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute Teacher position at Lauderdale County School District?
Substitute Teachers will be considered for work at any school in the district. Your preferences for location and grade level will be taken into consideration. Daily pay rate is based on Education level ($65 = HS diploma; $70 = degree).
Substitute teachers are extremely important to the district's success in our student's continued education. Applicants should possess a minimum High School diploma, successfully pass a TBI/FBI Fingerprint background check, pass a Child & Protective Services (CPS) background check, complete an initial physical examination and be available to work on short notice if needed.
Job Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Reviewing and implementing lesson plans
- Mentoring and engaging students
- Giving clear instructions and helping students understand the lesson
- Maintaining discipline and control of the classroom
- Fostering a safe learning atmosphere
- Recording and grading quizzes, homework, projects, and exams
- Observing and following all school policies
All candidates must submit an online application, provide proof of highest level of education, two (2) Professional references with email address, complete a TBI/FBI Fingerprint background check (see instructions below) BEFORE consideration can be given for this position. There is a one time (non-refundable) fee of $39 for the TBI/FBI Fingerprint Background check.
Once the results of the fingerprint background check are received by the Human Resource Department, an email will be sent to the applicant to schedule an appointment to begin the hiring process.
At the end of the school year, all active substitutes are required to submit an "Intent to Return" form to remain on the substitute list for the upcoming school year. This form must be received in the Human Resources Office by June 30. Failure to submit the "Intent to Return" will result in removal from the active substitute list and will require you to complete the process again.

All fingerprint background checks for Lauderdale County Schools are processed thru the L-1 Enrollment Services. The cost of the background check is the responsibility of the candidate at the time of service. This fee will enable the Department of Education to receive the results of the background check in a timely manner. The district does not reimburse for background check fees. ALL applicants require fingerprint background checks. Please follow the steps identified below.
A. To register and make an appointment:
1. Call (855) 226-2937, Monday-Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
Once registered, you will receive a registration confirmation number.

Click on the Agency Name box and select STATE SCHOOLS/COLLEGES
Select applicant type and click GO.
Enter ORI Number: TN930720Z and click GO
Select YES (Lauderdale County Bo of Ed) - then follow the instructions on the screen.
B. Proceed to the fingerprint location of your choice at your scheduled appointment time.
You must be pre-registered and must pay with either a MONEY ORDER made out to L-1 Enrollment Services or use a CREDIT CARD for the fees.

C. At the fingerprint service site, the Applicant must provide a valid State or Federal government issued identification (driver license, birth certificate, or social security card), and a set of fingerprints will be taken.
D. Fingerprints will be electronically forwarded to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and all results of the fingerprint background check will be provided to the Agency.
E. Complete the Waiver Agreement and Statement of Criminal History Checks form and Child Protection Services Waiver form. Email both forms, along with your receipt to HR@k12.lced.net
F. Once your results are received by LCS, you will be notified by Human Resources.
