WORK SCHEDULE

New Corrections Deputies will typically begin on Night Shift.

Night Shift Hours:

6:00 PM – 6:00 AM

Most employees are eventually provided an opportunity to move to Day Shift, with many employees having the opportunity to transition to days within approximately six months, depending upon staffing and available positions.

Applicants should be prepared to work:

• Nights
• Weekends
• Holidays
• 12-hour shifts

Public safety operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

You do not need prior corrections or law enforcement experience to apply.

We provide paid training and hands-on instruction designed to teach you the skills necessary to perform the job safely and professionally.

WHAT DOES A CORRECTIONS DEPUTY DO?

Corrections Deputies play an essential role in the operation of the Lauderdale County Detention Center and the safety of our community.

Responsibilities include:

• Maintaining the safety and security of the detention facility
• Supervising inmates
• Maintaining order within the facility
• Conducting security checks
• Conducting head counts
• Monitoring inmate movement
• Enforcing facility rules and procedures
• Responding to emergencies
• Preventing escapes and disturbances
• Preparing reports and documentation
• Communicating with inmates, staff, law enforcement officers, attorneys, medical personnel, and the public
• Working alongside other professional law enforcement personnel

No two days are exactly the same.

This is a career that requires responsibility, professionalism, teamwork, and good judgment.
