Duties
- Prepare and serve meals according to dietary guidelines, menus, and resident preferences, ensuring nutritional standards are met.
- Assist with food production, including cooking, portioning, and plating meals efficiently and accurately.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen area, including proper cleaning of utensils, equipment, and food preparation surfaces in compliance with health regulations such as JCAHO standards.
- Handle food safely by following proper food handling procedures, using personal protective equipment (PPE), and practicing safe lifting techniques during heavy lifting tasks.
- Adhere to all workplace safety protocols, including manual handling practices and operating kitchen equipment safely.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely meal service while respecting residents’ dietary requirements and special needs.
Skills
- Previous experience working in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or healthcare environments is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of food production, preparation techniques, and sanitation practices within the food industry.
- Familiarity with operating kitchen equipment such as ovens, mixers, and dishwashers.
- Excellent time management skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently during busy meal times.
- Ability to work effectively with geriatric patients while demonstrating compassion and patience.
- Basic math skills for portion control and inventory management.
- Knowledge of food safety standards and proper food handling procedures.
- Experience with dietary requirements adherence and nutrition principles relevant to older adults.
