What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nutrition Program Kitchen Aide position at Latin American Community Center?
The Nutrition Program’s Kitchen Aide is responsible for assisting in prepping meals for distribution that meet Licensing and CACFP/SFSP nutritional standards for children enrolled in Early Childhood Services, Learning Center and Youth Achievement Center utilizing the guidelines that follows all sanitation and health regulations.
Essential Functions
- Assure sanitation and safety practices in all phases of the CACFP/SFSP operation according to established standards.
- Maintains a clean and safe work area, including handling utensils, equipment and dishes.
- Reads and understands all menu components.
- Follows correct measurements for each meal according to CACFP/SFSP standards for each age group.
- Assist in washing, cutting and peeling vegetables as needed.
- Distribute meals to and from sites and classrooms.
- Assist in restocking kitchen supplies.
- Assist in unloading fresh supplies from vendors and organizing storage room, freezers and refrigerators in all sites.
- Responsible for cleaning up items from classrooms after each meal; wash, rinse and sanitize dishes.
- Assist with program inventory and determine what items are needed.
- Close the kitchen and make sure it’s ready for the next day as needed.
- Inspects kitchens for sanitation and safety, assures equipment is in safe working condition, notifies the appropriate authority when repairs are needed.
- Attend all mandatory CACFP/SFSP trainings and technical assistance workshops.
- Perform other duties or special projects as required or as assigned by the Nutrition Program/YD Director.
Qualifications
Education: High School Graduate or GED required.
Work Experience: One year of meal prep and/or distribution.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bilingual in Spanish / English preferred
- Computer literacy (Word, Outlook)
- Ability to handle sensitive and/or emergency situations.
- Ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment and appliances.
- Ability to lead by example and model behaviors that are consistent with agency values.Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
