About The Role
The Tactical Opportunities Distressed Credit Research Analyst is an integral part of Latham’s Financial Accounting team. This role will be responsible for taking the lead in identifying and researching potential stressed targets in the relevant market and advising Restructuring and Special Situations (R&SS) partners on industry opportunities, while monitoring the market to identify corporate distress and converting it into a pipeline of targets with broad coverage across sectors, jurisdictions, and company size, with areas of focus when building the pipeline including maturity profiles, capital needs, company‑ and sector‑specific stress, and advisory representation. This role will be located in our New York office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence.

Responsibilities & Qualifications
Other key responsibilities include:
- Preparing detailed internal credit analysis, including assessing liquidity, debt capacity, and financial and operating performance to evaluate company weaknesses and potential financing needs
- Developing workflows from ideation to marketing presentation, supported by credit reviews and go‑to‑market strategies for positioning R&SS opportunities
- Contributing to pitches through financial and commercial analysis of company situations
- Working closely with the Chair and Co‑Chairs of the R&SS practice, as well as R&SS partners, counsels, and associates
- Promoting effective work practices by working as a team member and demonstrating respect for coworkers
- Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains
- Exhibit strong teamwork and collaborative skills and the ability to foster those skills
- Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills
- Possess strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably with a finance or economics component
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in stressed or distressed debt or broader corporate credit analysis
