Title: Infant Assistant Teacher
General description of position: Working under the guidance of the Lead Teacher, Teacher Assistant provides support and assistance to the classroom teacher in providing a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that enhances and reflects the children’s learning and growth. The teacher assistant participates in all activities in the classroom and works as a team member with the lead and teacher assistant. Child age range from 6 weeks old to 1 years old.
Education and Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent. Early Childhood education preferred. Must be able to pass a drug test and a background check.
Personal Requirements:
- Obtain a medical health clearance and maintain clearance as required.
- Verification of a negative TB test and maintain verification as required.
- Submit transcripts or proof of highest level of education obtained.
- Must have fingerprint clearance and maintain clearance.
- Provide proof pediatric First Aid/ CPR Training.
- Register on WV STARS and compete at least 18 hours of professional development training a year.
- On an annual basis, evaluate job performance and develop a continuing education plan.

Performance Responsibilities:
- Assists the teacher with age-appropriate activities by working with individual or small groups of children for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts and by caring for children’s needs.
- Monitor and supervise children in various activities (e.g., meal, rest periods, group or individual play, outdoor/great room time) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment; ensure that ratios are met at all times. Be prepared to assist another classroom in maintaining ratios if the situation arise.
- Assist the teacher in maintaining records such as childcare food program, attendance, children’s portfolios, and other documents pertaining to the care of the children.
- Open classroom following guidelines and set up the classroom activities according to the lesson plans.
- Help maintain a clean and appealing environment for the children by picking up toys, cleaning toys, cleaning tables, sweeping floors, moving equipment (i.e. setting up cots, laundering cot sheets, and keeping closets neat and organized. Leave all areas clean and ready for the next day by following and sanitizing equipment and toys.
- Serve meals utilizing family style in a relaxed atmosphere.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Physical Demand:
- Frequently lift, move, or hold children with a range of weight within 10-50 pounds.
- Supervise and interact with children outdoors for extended periods.
- Demonstrate full range of motion and the ability to fully particulate in activities.
- Respond immediately and appropriately to multiple or unexpected situations or emergencies.
- Maintain mental and physical alertness and an appropriate level of energy.
Performance Evaluations:
This position will be evaluated initially at 90 days, 6 months, and then annually by the director of Lasting Impressions Child Development Center, in accordance with policy or as needs dictate.
