Cedar Run Company is seeking a part-time candidate to assist with animal care at the Last Hope Animal Rescue adoption center. Last Hope is a non-profit rescue that receives no state or federal funding; employee support and assistance is provided by Cedar Run Company.
Last Hope cares for approximately 65 animals a day at our adoption center, this role will focus on animal care, handling and cleaning. Dogs in our care are generally 50 pounds or larger.
Duties include, but are not limited to;
- Feeding animals and administering medication
- Cleaning and disinfecting interior animal kennels and all food, water bowls and bedding
- Cleaning outdoor kennels and exercise areas
- Working with volunteers to help provide enrichment opportunities for both dogs and cats
This position conducts proper cleaning and disinfecting of all rooms and kennels to provide a healthy environment for the animals in our care and provides our animals with compassion, daily exercise and enrichment. Volunteers are invited to join us at our adoption center for animal care and enrichment, so this position will also need to be able to work well with volunteers of all ages and backgrounds/skill sets and have strong communication skills.
Pay starts at $14 per hour, but is commensurate with experience. The ideal candidate will be available a minimum of 2-3 days per week to work a 5 to 7 hour shift (we have scheduling flexibility here), including a mandatory rotation of weekend shifts. Our animals require care 365 days a year so employees are asked to help cover a rotating holiday schedule as well.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Ability to lift 50 pounds, bend, squat and twist repeatedly is required.
- Detail oriented and dependable.
- Prior animal shelter, kennel, boarding facility or veterinary clinic experience.
BENEFICIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- General knowledge of animal health and welfare.
- Experience with animal handling and behavior.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability work well as part of a team.
- Computer skills for basic data entry and animal tracking needs.
