JOB SUMMARY:The Machining Estimator is responsible for analyzing technical drawings, specifications, and customer requirements to develop accurate cost estimates and quotations for machined components and assemblies. This position requires a strong understanding of machining processes, materials, tooling, and production methods to ensure that quotes are competitive, profitable, and achievable within production capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Review engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD models, and customer specifications to determine machining requirements.
- Analyze part geometry, tolerances, and material specifications to determine the most efficient machining process and setup.
- Estimate machining times, labor, tooling, and material costs for CNC and manual machining operations.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and purchasing teams to validate cost assumptions and manufacturing feasibility.
- Prepare detailed cost breakdowns and formal quotations for customer RFQs (Requests for Quotation).
- Maintain an organized record of estimates, revisions, and customer correspondence.
- Recommend process improvements or design modifications to reduce costs and improve manufacturability.
- Stay current with industry trends, material costs, and machining technologies.
- Support sales and customer service teams by providing technical insights and clarifying quotation details.
- Follow policies and procedures identified by the quality (ISO 9001) and health and safety plan for accident prevention.

Qualifications and Requirements:
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field (preferred).
- Equivalent experience in precision machining or manufacturing estimating accepted.
- 3 years of experience in machining estimation, CNC programming, or manufacturing engineering.
- Hands-on experience with CNC machining processes (turning, milling, drilling, grinding, etc.).
- Proficiency with CAD/CAM software
- Knowledge of GD&T, material properties, cutting tools, and machining best practices.
- Experience with ERP or quoting systems (e.g., JobBOSS, or similar).
- Ability to work independently and with a team
- Detail oriented and ability to stay organized
- Good verbal and written communication skills
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
- Work indoors in a temperature-controlled office environment.
- Prolonged sitting and frequent use of a computer and other office related equipment.
