Position Summary
The Las Vegas Paiute Tribal Police Department is seeking a dedicated and community minded Police Officer to join our growing team. Under the supervision of the Police Sergeant, this role is responsible for protecting life and property, maintaining peace, and enforcing tribal, federal, and state laws within Tribal lands.
As a Police Officer, you'll patrol the community, respond to calls for service, investigate crimes and accidents, and assist in emergencies. You'll also have the opportunity to engage directly with community members, helping to build trust, safety, and positive relationships across the Tribe.
This position plays a vital role in maintaining law and order and requires professionalism, courage, and sound decision-making in both routine and high-pressure situations. Tribal preference applies, and prior military police or law enforcement experience is highly valued.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED.
- Age Requirement: Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a law enforcement officer.
- Investigative Skills: Experience investigating criminal offenses from misdemeanors to gross misdemeanors felonies minor offenses and conducting preliminary investigations of all crimes.
- Licensing: Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada driver's license upon hire.
- Insurance: Must be insurable under the Tribe's vehicle policy.
- Certification: Must be NV P.O.S.T. certified or able to obtain NV P.O.S.T. certification. Must have CAT I or equivalent from a state with reciprocity capability with Nevada and must complete the reciprocity process with in the first year from hire date.
- Legal Requirements: No felony or misdemeanor convictions; no DUI convictions within the last seven (7) years.
- Medical Clearance: Must pass a medical exam, physical fitness test, pre employment drug/alcohol screen, Polygraph, Psychological exam an in-person interview and background investigation. Upon being hired employee must agree to a two-year employment contract attached to the application starting from hire date.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct routine patrols by vehicle and on foot.
- Foster and maintain positive relationships with community members.
- Respond to calls involving threats to life, property, or public peace.
- Enforce tribal, federal, and state laws, including traffic enforcement and control.
- Investigate disturbances, thefts, burglaries, accidents, and other criminal activity.
- Collect and document evidence through photography, fingerprinting, and written reports.
- Make arrests and prepare detailed, accurate reports on incidents and investigations.
- Appear in court to provide testimony and present evidence.
- Direct traffic and assist with crowd control during special events or emergencies.
- Transport prisoners safely to and from detention facilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of applicable tribal, federal, state, and local laws.
- Proficiency in law enforcement practices, investigative techniques, and public relations.
- Skilled in the use of law enforcement tools and equipment, to include: firearms, radios, computers, vehicles and poses interview/interrogation techniques
- Ability to respond to and manage high-stress or emergency situations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and courtroom testimony.
- Ability to interact respectfully with individuals of diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
- Ability to analyze complex situations and make sound, informed decisions.

Physical Demands
- Strength: Requires heavy lifting (up to 100 lbs), frequent lifting/carrying (up to 50 lbs).
- Vision: Must be correctable to 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other.
- Hearing: Must be sufficient to communicate effectively via radio.
- Fitness: Must be able to stand, sit, climb, crawl, and perform duties for extended periods under varied conditions.
- Must successfully pass periodic firearms and physical fitness requalification.
Work Environment
Primarily outdoor work with exposure to extreme weather, dust, and rugged terrain. May involve extended shifts, mandatory overtime, and shift rotations including nights, weekends, and holidays. Subject to emergency call-outs at any time. Travel required for training, meetings, and other law enforcement functions.
