Position Description:

Acting under the direction of the Adult Development Program Supervisor, the Adult Development Program Lead Instructor is responsible for providing guidance, mentoring, and coaching to current and new ADP staff and ensuring that ADP staff comply with directives of management. The Lead Instructor will also be responsible for ensuring new Instructors successfully complete the 40-hour new employee on-site shadow training.  The ADP Lead Instructor shall ensure activity schedules are completed, and that ADP staff carry out the activities as prescribed, ensure materials are available for carrying out training activities, and ensure ADP staff follow established curriculums as well as established goals and objectives outlined in consumer Individual Service Plans.  The ADP Lead Instructor is also responsible for providing direct services to individuals served by the agency ensuring their safety, care and welfare and promoting increased independence through planned curriculum.

This position is not a supervisory position.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide training to individuals in assigned groups with all activities of daily living as specified in the Individual’s Program Plan (IPP) and Individual’s Service Plan (ISP). 
  • Provide training to the individuals in the least-restrictive, most appropriate setting including simulated training on campus and actual practice in community locations.
  • Provide support to individuals in an assigned group with personal needs as specified in the consumer’s IPP and ISP.  This may include, but is not limited to, changing adult briefs   feeding the individual according to the support plans, and any other need that arises through the course of the program day.
  • Follow all procedures for handling the individual’s funds including Personal and Incidental (P&I) funds.
  • Act as a liaison regarding calls for support to assess the need for a supervisor support. 
  • Lead quarterly staff meetings
  • Provide appropriate supervision for the individual to ensure the health, welfare, and safety of their person. 
    • While providing direct supervision of the person supported, the ADP Trainer may not leave persons unattended and must remain with assigned consumers until relieved by another staff member.
  • Clearly communicate the directives of management to ADP staff.
  • Identify individual needs including specific training needs and convey this information effectively to the ADP supervisor.
  • Successfully complete and maintain Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification through Las Trampas.
  • Conduct regular meetings with ADP staff within the team to review individual issues and convey staff concerns to the ADP Supervisor as necessary including the development of the meeting agenda, training materials, meeting notes, and any other associated documentation.
  • Provide documentation on individuals using Case Magic.
  • Gather ADP team and the input of the individuals supported on training activities and develop activity schedules and lesson plans for the assigned team ensuring that activities and trainings comply with ISPs, the ADP program design, and established curriculum.  Activities must be meaningful to the individuals served.
    • Adjust teaching strategies and training curriculum as necessary to support the individual’s served in the team to achieve documented goals and objectives.
    • Ensure all changes in daily activities are noted on the appropriate documents and comply with ISPs.
    • Receive approval from the ADP Supervisor for changes in daily activities within the team and communicate those changes to the ADP staff.
  • Support community outings and organization with transportation by either agency vehicles or public transportation.
  • Act as primary responder to individual crises within the assigned team (when available) and ensure the safety of staff and the individual during behavioral outbursts that threaten the safety of fellow individuals and/or staff. (When available)
    • Monitor all individual containments and provide feedback to the crisis team during a containment procedure.
  • Conduct periodic spot checks of classroom safety to ensure compliance with California Code of Regulations Titles 17 and 22.
  • Comply with all associated laws, regulations, and agency policy and procedure.
  • Maintain a high level of quality of work performance.
  • Maintain a high level of internal and community relations by conveying respectful and cooperative communications with both fellow coworkers and members of the community.
  • Maintain consumer confidentiality including not disclosing personal information about the consumer to community members or others who do not have a direct need to know such information.
  • Ensure the rights and dignity of the consumers served by the agency in all situations.
  • Participate in all required meetings and trainings and adhere to the principles of the agency mission and person-centered services.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one to two years’ experience in providing direct services to individuals with severe and multiple disabilities.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and DMV record that meets agency requirements as an approved driver.
  • Experience in behavior management preferred with a demonstrated understanding of positive behavior support principles.
  • Ability to effectively use a computer and associated productivity software programs including MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Ability to collaborate with and coach and mentor peers
  • Ethical and professional standards.
  • Problem-solving, critical thinking and personal accountability.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle according to California laws and regulations
  • Ability to be in a stand and/or sit for extended periods of time (up to 2 hours)
  • Ability to work in inclement weather conditions while providing services in the community including moderate heat and cold
  • Physical ability to lift 50 pounds and assist in a two-person containment in crisis behavioral episodes.
  • Visual acuity required for the use of computers and reading materials

Classification, Benefits and Compensation:

  • Classification:  At-will, Regular, Full-time, Non-Exempt
  • Hours Worked: Monday through Friday, eight (8) hours per day 
  • FT Benefits:  Paid Vacation, Paid Sick Time, 11 Paid Holidays, Health/Dental/Vision Insurance, Group Life Insurance, Voluntary Life Insurance, FSA-Dependent Care, FSA-Health Care, Commuter Benefits Program, and Employee Assistance Program
  • Salary:  $27.50/hr. without RBT Certification; $28.50/hr. once RBT Certification training has started; $30.00/hr. once RBT Certification is completed 
  • Sign-on Bonus: $1,000
