Lumberyard Sales Associate / Counter

Building materials sales professional wanted for independent lumber yard in San Leandro. Previous building material sales experience is required. Good customer service and communication skills are essential.

Salary starting at $25/hour depending on experience. This is not a commissioned sales position.

Company participates in a collective bargaining agreement with the Clerk and Lumber Handlers Local 886. Per this agreement, new employees for this position are required to join Local 886 and pay a one-time initiation fee of $500 (if applicant is not already a member) and monthly dues of $60.

Duties and responsibilities

• Write customer orders and delivery orders and collect payment
• Assist customers in product selection and process order
• Answer phones and process sales orders over the phone
• Receive delivered inventory by properly inspecting paperwork for accuracy and by depositing inventory in designated locations
• Willing and available to work overtime hours on Saturdays (8am – noon)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of lumber and other building materials is REQUIRED
• Ability to read and interpret “picking tickets” and invoices
• Ability to process invoices through a point-of-sale computer system
• Sound math skills
• Strong English verbal skills and excellent customer service skills
• Spanish-speaker a huge bonus!

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stoop, bend, walk and effectively communicate at levels normal for someone performing work with the general public primarily in a retail sales environment.
